"60 per cent pricier than a PC-only card"

    Seems reasonable

Presumably it's possible to just get the Mac bios and put it on a standard card for a 60% saving.

But its 60% more styled right? I mean sure apple are expensive but it's apple, I mean its all worth it right?

And besides, no one really knows the future of them in the EU zone anyway.

But it lacks the branding. I want my 'iRadeon' HD7950.

Wow, Apple bashing already on a non-Apple manufactured product

Surely a BIOS dump by one person and a quick flash would now be a good option for anyone wanting to upgrade to a 7950?

I know that there are PC graphic cards out there that have been flashed with an Apple BIOS so I really can't see it not happening in this case! It's a serious rip off no matter how you look at it and no matter what you think of Apple!

Re: News - Sapphire releases Apple Mac-orientated Radeon HD 7950

My work mac pros are about three times the price of my home system that I built around the same time they were bought (3 years ago). They are absolutely put to shame in all areas of performance relative to my home-built PC, not just graphics, but disk access, system boot time, application loading, CPU performance, and so on. Not to mention that most of the games I play aren't available on Mac anyway... People who buy Apple products out of their own pockets are almost certainly willing to spend the extra moolah on these 'upgrades' though. They are the definition of "more money than sense", if you ask me.

How can they justify this cost? Really, how? I'm completely in awe of the gall of this despicable company!

It all boils down to personal opinion but in a word - OSX. I have a Hackintosh, and a couple of Apple laptops. Price wise the laptops are a bit more expensive that comparably price PCs but I'll happily pay the extra so I can run OSX. I moved to OSX when Vista came out and haven't looked back.

Back on topic, it's not Apple that's fleecing customers this time, it's Sapphire.

LOL What a joke 60% extra for a slightly different bios! How much will the Apple approved drivers cost? Its articles like this that remind my why there isn't and never will be a single apple device in my house.... disgusting money grabbing company.

Read the article, this is not an Apple product....

In a way, it IS, because Sapphire had to pay loads to Apple to get the GPU certified and to have the Mac branding on the box. But the fact that you can get a 7970 for less than this is just ridiculous. I still don't know why people pay so much extra to get an inferior OS to work (just my opinion)...

No, it's not. Just because a 3rd party pays for certification/branding (and in this case seemingly BIOS specific stuff) it does not make it an Apple product.

Please don't mistake my correction of the Apple haters with the idea that I, in any way, think this is a 'reasonable' product. It's a rip off, plain and simple, however it is a Sapphire rip-off.

If a Mac GPU didn't require the "apple approved" bios they would be regular price.

Exactly, it may be a sapphire product but the only reason why buyers will be getting ripped off is because they are using an apple. Both companies should hang their heads in shame.
