Almost laughed my nuts off when I discovered that the Xbrick One comes with a separate XBrick Power Supply. If Microsoft is early to market as Toys R' Us suggests, it's just because they've slapped a PC in a box... no a PC in TWO boxes.
I like separate power supplies, so long as they are not wallwhart kind.
I think they have many benefits. PSUs fail commonly, so its easy to replace. PSUs generate heat, it's easy to have it elsewhere because it isn't something you need to touch (I have my consoles in a cabinet, so heat is always a worry).
So myself I am in favour of a separate PSU.
The question I ask, is why do you need a subscription to use Skype on the xbox. MS own Skype. Surely if you already have a Skype Premium account you shouldn't have to pay for the privilege of using it? It does appear that they have one-upped the gillete model. Selling you a bloody expensive razor, with expensive blades that you must buy to be able to use it.

You cannot 'up' the Gillete model - their latest one comes with 5 blades... with a 'precision' blade on the back of it which is essentially the very first razor they brought out.
As for the separate power supply - I'm indifferent really. It's not a hassle once the console is setup and as you said, less heat inside the console is better. It does however limit the portability of said console - playstation power cables are cheap and plentiful.

More likely that with a separate brick you can produce regionised (is that a word?) versions more easily, and as said above, just replace the brick if it fails.
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!

I don't mind the idea of a separate power brick at all, in fact I quite like it, as others have said, reduces the amount of heat within the console, and also can make the console slightly smaller/put more good stuff in it, whilst you can shove the power brick at the back somewhere.
Pity they are going to be paid services, since it's trying to be more than just a console, you might think they'd want to encourage the extra uses, rather than put people off by making them pay.
Oh and because it wouldn't post before - getting people to pay a monthly sunscription is just how the software and hardware world is going. Shareholders love a nice steady revenue stream every month, it can be great, but look at Blizzard and the WoW thing. Once a decline sets in it can be almost impossible to turn it around. However if it's years before the decline starts I guess who cares?
If you get the figures right people will almost universally pay for the service. Most people I know pay for an Xbox Live subscription if they can

What's the name of this app, and can I get it on my phone?
Please tell me that was a deliberate Typo....paid up Xbox Love Gold subscriber.

The power brick is a bit dated, I've never had a console power supply fail on me. The PS4 is smaller and has an internal power supply so it can be done.
How is the power brick dated? All devices have them, whether they are internal or external. TBH, I prefer external (especially in a SFF), keep that heat away from my tech!
As for Skype sub, I can understand it IF you get free international phone calls with it.....but I guess that won't be the case.

My comment on the power brick relates more to the shock that the Xbox One is so large and yet still doesn't internalise the PSU; if it had been smaller with an external PSU then I would have remained somewhat indifferent to Microsoft's choice.
Having said that, I do believe you're more likely to lose or damage a separate PSU than have a modern, well-designed internal PSU fail. Looking at the original Xbox 360 PSU, yes, the console may have remained cooler, but then the compacted PSU would, itself, overheat, causing consoles to freeze, something which I've suffered from myself with a release-day Xbox 360 and, we all know an unstable power supply can diminish system life. There are also many case designs that can effectively thermally segment an internal PSU from the rest of the console, though how this will work (if present) in Sony's design of the PS4 remains to be seen.
They have too many things requiring a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription. I understand their business model, but they're also trying to convince so many of us that this is more than a console and can be used like a computer. My computer does not require I pay an annual fee for Internet Explorer or Facebook, nor do I have to pay for access to Skype or Netflix, or Youtube, etc.
These features should be free to access.
Huh?
The last two do have external power-supplies.
Washing Machines and Kettles don't need complex power supplies, TVs/Digiboxes/DVD players take very little power, relative to the footprint they have so don't need to be integrated.
Take a look at a reliable 5V 2A supply, and ask yourself do you want that built in to your phone. Hell no is my response.
I just can't see why its a bad thing.

go for the ps4
better specs
Go for pc. Better specs. Lol.
Personally i care not for either console, xbox was fun however it ended up being more expensive over the years ( per game charge plus xbl and red rings and worn out controllers) Pc is where its at. Backwards compatible. Good gpu(choice of). Audio is way better. Choice of controls. List goes on.
Only good news is the x86 of the new apu's in next gen consoles.
