Looks like a great bit of tech ! I was actually thinking about this idea last week after watching a VR event online and them saying that to trick the brain into being in the virtual environment everything needed to feel natural, they were referring to visuals and audio.
Anyway at the end I was dreaming up some kind of massive trackball to run or walk on lol.
It's a gamer's exercise bike. Which means that the waiste hoop needs to be bigger so you can hang more washing on it. Because after the first few days, that's all it'll be used for. And even when you do want to use it, you'll only be able to find one of the shoes.
Great idea though, in theory.

I wonder what it will be like to play Minecraft with one of these things?
Does no one else see the rather incongruous that this is going to be out before the oculus rift, the device that both inspired it and that it was designed to be a companion to?

You could buy a rift last year, the next one comes out soon. Admittedly, the first one was extremely ropey (made me sick in about 0.5 secs!)
As to the Omni....The idea is sound but it's not for me, hell after an hour of Battlefield I would be dead!

There's also the Cyberith to keep an eye on. Main differences are that it's EU-based (so saves a big chink on shipping and customs charges), and allows jumping & crouching as well as a 'seated' position.
Just paintball - cheaper and keeps you fitter
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
"it is highly possible that we might start seeing these popping up in public arcades." - What are these "public arcades" that you speak of? They all closed down around here 10-15 years ago. The only ones left are in Chuck-E-Cheese's and amusement parks.
Or seaside resorts.....
