Such alot of power for such a little thing and does not require extra GPU power cables. Perfect mid range graphics card in my mind - will be interesting to see how to compares to the older mid range cards like 6870

Not so - you need an 8-pin cable to supply the power it needs

Even so, it's still impressive in respect of its size.

It does make you wonder why graphics cards are normally so big

    Re: Reviews - MSI R9 270X Gaming 2G ITX

Big question is how much actual use will it be in mini-itx cases?

Most mini-ITX cases are built around ether enough space for a full length card or a half height card, none I can think of off hand are designed around a short full height card with the additional width of a pci-e power cable on the side.

Off the top of my head, I remember the Cooler Master Elite 110 and a number of mITX Lian Li cases (including the fairly radical Q30) can only take short cards, but are still dual slot full height. I think there are a couple other cube cases out there which only take short cards, but you are right that there is no shortage of mITX cases which can accommodate long cards.

I'd forgotten about the elite 110, and I though the ones on the lian li side where single slot only, but it's 4 (PC-Q33, PC-Q01, PC-Q27 and PC-Q11)
Still that's only 5 cases in total where this would be good.

ps there's a few more cases you could add to your long card mini-itx case thread these days.

    Re: Reviews - MSI R9 270X Gaming 2G ITX

While there are only a few cases which will need this card; its performance and aggressive pricing (being one of the cheapest 270Xs on Scan) mean that it is a card which is applicable to a wide audience. The shorter card might be lighter and easier to work with and after reading the Hexus review, I think this is a front runner for me in the 270X range of cards.

Alas, I didn't intend to make that thread a comprehensive guide and low response led me away from it. But there certainly are a lot of new cases to be going on about now; the CM Elite 110, 250D, HAF Stacker small module and Bitfenixes the Lian Lis. With Computex going on, a couple more new interesting cases have come out like the Corsair Air 240 and 380T. Hexus also had on a couple new cases from Raijintek, Xigmatek and Deepcool. Plus the smattering of more eclectic cases and... what. Good god even eBuyer is in the game now.

Remember the 670 DirectCu Mini? Really shows that there is no need for such a massive cooler on a high performance chip.
