Dear Samsung (see also: Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, etc, etc),
Please put 2560x1600 screens and big batteries in to things at a reasonable price, that aren't tablets. Like, maybe your laptops.

Yet another tablet I wont buy because it's completely over the top expensive for what it would be used for...
I can see the same issue the 8.4" Tab S has that the Pro had too - a sub-par battery. 4800mAH isn't going to last very long. I'd rather they made it thicker and slightly heavier and put in a bigger battery and used a lower resolution screen (I think 1080p is more than enough on 8.4") to conserve battery (I'm not sure if a lower resolution would save power though - I'm guessing that lower resolution = lower graphics power required = less power used on the graphics at the very least).
Going a bit offtopic here, but other than Samsung, are there any other Android tablets that support multitasking straight out of the box without the need to root? I've got an iPad Mini with Retina myself and it's brilliant for my uses (mainly just watching videos, lecture notes, pdf viewing) and the battery life is superb but I do wish that I could open two apps/windows at the same time, side by side or something.
Perhaps I should look at the Windows offerings... I've got an Android phone myself though (Mi3), using Windows 8 on my desktop and laptop, and have an iPad Mini Retina and I think I prefer an Android system myself overall for a tablet/handheld device. I find that I use my iPad Mini Retina much more than I use my laptop, due to how portable it is.
Can't help but feel the video is very dishonest with running photoshop.
Given the resolution of the screen, the nature of the iamge update when someone moves a slider like that in Photoshop, it isn't going to be smooth. If you want to do that kind of think you need a x86/x64 tablet....

I'm going to disagree - the Note 8.0 my daughter got last Christmas only has a 4600mAh battery and it seems to last fine. Like you though, I'd prefer a bit more "heft" to get more battery in. And yes, it seems to be a fact that lower res = less power drawn.Originally Posted by Ulti
That's not multi-tasking - that's multi-windows. Unfortunately, it looks like Samsung does it best (got an S3 and Note 10.1 that do this), but the Asus Transformer tf701 supposedly does it, as does the LG G Pad (with something called Q Slide)

Slagging aside, I think the Windows RT stuff is probably a non-starter - although that Nokia 2520 is a pretty nice device. Anyone got a Surface/Surface2 (non-Pro) that they could try?
These new Tab's look like nice devices, although I dare say that they'll be the usual complaints that there's no content to make use of that resolution, same as the comments being made against the LG G3's QHD screen. Not that bothered myself because my current tablets are fine, plus Samsung's bloatware bundling is starting to really annoy me.
Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

actually good,because Humans will use it as a universal remote instead of the usual Logitech Harmony -it will have a wider use,will definitely consider it
I like the sound of the 8.4" version myself.
I also like the industrial design for these, very different to the iPad and probably every other tablet out there.
I'm still a huge fan of iPads, sorry to say it!

On the other hand I used my Note 10.1 last week for:
setting up a series link on our Tivo (tv was in use);
playing PvZ2 many times (I'm weak!);
terminal into my Windows PC to check on the progress of a backup (via SplashtopHD) from another room;
checking the configuration of my router (didn't have a PC switched on);
many, many website browses, including a couple of comment postings via Disqus;
route planning for a holiday (specifically how far from Bristol is Cardiff by car);
checking wifi strengths etc (using wifi analyser app);
displaying guitar tab (sheet music);
playing instructional dvd, with dvd-interactive features.
Now everything above CAN be done on a PC, and a lot can also be done on a decent sized smartphone. My point being that the tablet just makes that more accessible. I'm not trying to claim for a millisecond that the tablet is a "must buy" item for everyone, but as a second stringer it makes a heck of a lot of sense. And I'd argue that for a lot of folks a tablet would make more sense than a similarly priced budget laptop.
Nothing wrong with that opinion - there's still usage cases where the answer has to be "iPad". On the other hand, I'll argue that outwith those particular usages, you're now spoilt for choice with non-iPad devices being a pretty good match for Apple's lap slab. Personally I'd like to see more innovation like S-Pen etc - making it more natural to use these devices. What I am happy to see though is that more manufacturers are following the line of providing proper (i.e. with secondary battery and not connected via wireless) keyboard docks. I think these are a necessary item if you want to use a tablet as a creation device.
