Hexus, PLEASE use Guild Wars 2 as one of the framerate tests
Seems bit overpriced for a reference PCB, also evga and msi versions are 20 quid cheaper. Also it doesn't have that boom in your face performance as its predecessor the windforce x3. Also not sure if I should sell my 780 and upgrade to the 980 or sli my 780, the price difference will be about the same. Any Ideas guys?
I had similar thinking with my 680 whether to maximise the 2nd hand value you'd get for it or SLi it?
In the end I sold it but I then regretted the fact I couldn't afford anything at the time, so I've been sitting around for a bit.
Overclockers currently have some excellent prices on their 780 Ti GHz, around £140 less over this G1, albeit limited to Gigabytes cards but I'm thinking 2 of those.
The 780 Ti is not that far behind the G1 and assume the benchmarks are vs stock 780 Ti, so these would still last a good 2/3 generations.
The 580s have kept their 2nd hand value and still in demand.
So I did some testing on my own regarding this and a few other reviews as well as checked some old reviews done by hexus as well. The results I get are different to what is being shown here.
The crysis 3 section for the gtx 980 lists other cards that in their own reviews had frankly absurdly different results to what is on display here.
You can simply check the r9 290x vapor x review by hexus for this, Crysis 3 got 60.8 fps which is close to double what is being shown in this review.
I want some answers to the difference in results.
From what I can tell I would be better off getting the vapor x r9 290x as it got 60fps compared to the gtx 980 gamer from gigabyte? Would that be a correct assumption given that it got a higher fps in the same benchmark?
Or has something changed in the game to such a degree that the same card lost 30% of it's performance in a matter of months?
Different settings, as the review says:
The R9 290X review was tested at " 4xMSAA, High Preset"
This review it was tested at "4xMSAA, Very High Textures, Very High System Spec"
