I wonder how this budget x86 niche will develop when the Atom dumping stops? Granted the sale price of the SoCs isn't as stupidly high as it once was, but it's still a fair chunk of the BoM in this sort of price range.
Well Intel and Microsoft managed to kill off the Netbook market by crippling the specs, so I'm sure if this sort of thing starts to take off they will find a way to spoil things even if the hardware remains cheap enough.
That HDMI plug poking out is just asking to be snapped off though. I would rather see one of these with a socket and use a cheap HDMI cable, they are only about £1.50 online.
I was looking at a Gigabyte Brix for a small app running on a separate 15" Monitor (for flight sim gauges) this would be perfect! Cannot wait to see this available to buy.
It would be nice, but only with 1 year warranty at least.
Simply use a short usb extension cable.. Can get 20cm ones for very cheap.
I think the processors have been mixed up. According to the page linked in the story (and the specs listed on Intel's website), the Z3735G supports 1GB RAM and the Z3735F supports 2GB.
Sorry If this isn't a bright question, but how would I connect my peripherals to this? wired mouse/keyboard? I would have to buy a usb to micro usb connector right?
Get a HDMI extension cable so you can rest the device instead of plugging it straight into your source
You could use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it also has 1 full size USB2 connector on it, but yes you could also get a plug to utilize the microUSB
Another thing, with only 1 or 2gb of RAM could it even run windows 8.1 ? I wouldn't mind something like this so can install an OS to enable playback of any video file. I've always been wary of a dedicated media decoder because you always hear of them not supporting some media types, but with an OS and something like XBMC that wouldn't be a worry
Windows 8.1 runs fine with just 1gb of RAM. So long as you aren't wanting any heavy apps running concurrently.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
Ah cool. To be honest though I'd probably run WinXP if I was going to go the win-route (I'm just a big fan of MPC-HC, MPC and MPC-HC have been my media players for as long as I can remember)
Kinda interested in this but need one with more ram and cheaper price
