Computers to Cars...I will reserve judgement.
Now this would be interesting! I a no great Apple fan since I ditched my last iPhone a couple of years ago (and safe to say I would never in a million years buy an Apple car), but I'd be very interested to see what they can come up with.
Apple have always been at their best when they're doing something really surprising and different, not just going head-to-head with a dozen other big players like they currently do in phones, tablets etc. Would be good to see them properly push the boundaries of an untapped market space again.

Can't use the steering wheel after update to 1.1, need to wait for the 1.2 fix.....

A chromed car with just one button that takes you to the nearest coffee shop?
Meh, unless it is built in Germany people around here won't buy it even if it is good.
Edit to add: How long before people are told they are driving it wrong?
"Sorry I'm 3 hours late for work, Boss... I had to download the latest iDrivers for my iCar and then resolve several software conflicts"!!
We know it won't be built in Germany. It will be built by whoever bids lowest to make the individual parts, almost certainly in Asia.
It will probably cost more than better cars in the next highest bracket, yet people will buy them for the cool factor.
We all jest, yet I think the real humour will come when they release and most of the jokes become true!
Thankfully they will probably be too expensive for people to buy them as fashion statements.

"Untapped market space"? I'm not sure that Tesla (S), Nissan (Leaf), Renault (ZE range), Ford (Focus Electric), Fiat (500e - US only), BWM (i3), Kia (Soul EV) etc would necessarily agree. Heck, I can drive 20 minutes (or less) down the road and go look at a Renault ZE or a Nissan Leaf. Dammit I nearly got run down in the local retail park by a Leaf the other day ... hadn't realised how darned quiet those things really are.
Nope, with anti-Apple hat firmly on my noggin I'm going to suggest that this looks like a bit of desperation. Heck, if I'm being pro the other usual camp then mayhaps a case of "Ooh, Google's doing cars [driverless] so we'd better too".
Bah humbug!
I wouldn't put it past Apple to produce a desirable, well engineered car. They have the financial resources and the mentality. And if history repeats they won't be inventing anything new - but putting it all together in a very intriguing package. All IMHO.
This reminds me of the old joke:
How do you make a bit of money making cars? Start with a lot of money!
