Glad to see one available for a sensible price finally. Still seems crazy that a windows tablet costs about the same as this. You'd think dropping the screen would reduce the cost...
At that price I would be tempted to buy one just to try it out and then mod the heck out of it (no idea how yet but fun to try)
Of course Archos do not have the best reputation for build quality - but you get what you pay for.
Also no battery, less materials & even less buttons count.
Heck, a smaller box with less weight for even less shipping charges!
Seems prices are getting there.
The good thing is before I buy one I can test using my tablet of the same spec that everything can/will work as planned.
Would likely fall under the 'free windows for sub 9 inch displays' or windows with bing.
I like the idea and the price is better but what is it with companies using these stupid colours that just don't fit in their intended locations, hp did a tiny 'windows with bing' box and then put it in a bright blue box, now archos have done it. Don't they realise that blue just doesn't work in most peoples living rooms (hell it wouldn't work in any other of my rooms either), a location that I would bet a high percentage of people would use these boxes.
Case colour isn't such a problem, LEDs so bright that behind the TV is a light show might be. Mind you, I have a USB charger in my bedroom that proves that a bit of black insulating tape can cure both those problems
It would need to be on an extension cable for me to use it like that, my Samsung tv's have the ports stuck side ways and fairly close together meaning I'd only be able to use 2 slots. It wouldn't be as much of an issue if they'd stuck the port more to one side because it can go top or bottom socket that way. .
So if it's got Word, Excel & Powerpoint Mobile pre-installed does that mean the OS is the mobile version rather than the proper x86 version ?
This'd make a perfect little Plex Home Theatre / Emu-Arcade machine.
Shove Hyperspin on it, throw in a 64GB microSD filled with roms and connect a controller and away you go.
I actually like this, not sure if I would get one myself for the home but can certainly see where it may come in handy when out and about.
