I've been wanting to buy this so I think I'll pick it up on Steam while it's 20% off.

This looks epic and I can run it in Mantle.

    Mantle is no more.
It would've been nice to have seen AotS ported over to Mantle's successors, is Vulkan not ready for prime time?

Vulkan is supposed to be released "Late 2015". Although, as with most software these days, expect slippage.

We also do not know if that is just Linux or Windows or both and I expect we will probably need Vulkan-ready drivers.....

Very interested in this, as I'm a fan of Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander but I won't be breaking my 'no-preorders' rule - especially not for an early access title. I eagerly await the opinions and reviews of others.

It is? I thought Oxide Games said their engine is only going to support DirectX.
Should be interesting to see how Vulkan and DX12 compare, got any links on details of their Vulkan implementation.

We all know what's happening with Mantle.....AMD killed it after it had performed its purpose.

Re: Ashes of the Singularity DX12 hits Steam Early Access on 22nd Oct

No thats not whats happened. Maybe go read the AMD announcement again. AMD aren't going to publicly release an SDK and open up the program to anymore developers. Engine developers can still use Mantle and AMD will still provide support for the core group of partners.

Or I can quote it for you LOL. AMD don't own Mantle it's the product of a partnership.

    https://community.amd.com/community/...ture-of-mantle

AMD will continue to support our trusted partners that have committed to Mantle in future projects, like Battlefield™ Hardline, with all the resources at our disposal.
Mantle’s definition of “open” must widen. It already has, in fact. This vital effort has replaced our intention to release a public Mantle SDK, and you will learn the facts on Thursday, March 5 at GDC 2015.
Mantle must take on new capabilities and evolve beyond mastery of the draw call. It will continue to serve AMD as a graphics innovation platform available to select partners with custom needs.
The Mantle SDK also remains available to partners who register in this co-development and evaluation program. However, if you are a developer interested in Mantle "1.0" functionality, we suggest that you focus your attention on DirectX® 12 or GLnext.

To be frank I'll believe it when i see it.
I'm not doubting they may have plans to support Vulkan but i can't see AotS supporting it when it hits early access in a weeks time.

Re: Ashes of the Singularity DX12 hits Steam Early Access on 22nd Oct

Well I presume Mantle has evolved into basically a dev toolkit that helps devs use DX12 features. Whether it's better or worse than the D3D kit or not I don't know, but if people were already using mantle prior to DX12 they might want to stick with a familiar toolkit.
