"Some even say that their GPU has broken due to lack of adequate cooling"........oooops there is high temperature protection on every GPU that supports Crimson meaning those guys are lying and expect AMD to replace their older GPU's with something like the Fury X.....sorry Buddies that aint happening
- How's that new Radeon driver running on your card?
- Smokin'!
Sorry. Couldn't resist.

thermal shutdown does not depend on APi's (DirectX and so called drivers) if so then windows would be burning many Pentium 4 processors that have been known to get hard hot. The GPU/CPU has inbuilt protection even after setting the Bios not to shut down when e.g 90 degrees reaches the GPU/CPU will just result to hang itself forcing you to switch off using the main switch becoz you think you are smarter.

If mine is limited then it hasn't had any effect on performance or temperature!
And if my 7970 (XFX SOC model) is limited to 20% then lord help us if it ever gets to 100% - cue law suit for loss of hearing.
Actually I've had issues with MoH:Warfighter & Crimson - game just hangs on the Ultra setting I had before, so I've downgraded to "High" and now I get tearing in the cinematics (although the in-game stuff plays fine).
Actually I'm going to agree with lumireleon - I too thought that it was graphics card firmware (i.e. on the card itself) that was the last line of defence against a card cooking itself. Seem like a pretty n00bish mistake to assume that fans etc will never break down and hence not bother with a thermal monitor. So speaks the guy who had a HSF pin shear on an old MSI graphics card with the result that the HSF came off. In which case I'm a bit confused how a software driver could make a card cook itself - short of some unauthorised mods.
By the way, am I the only one who's sense of humour was tickled by the idea of fixing a low fan speed issue with a hotfix!?
A new, slightly differently worded, official AMD statement just arrived in the HEXUS email box.
“We’re aware of isolated reports of low fan states following the installation of Radeon Software ‘Crimson Edition’ on select Radeon GPUs. Our engineering teams have identified and addressed this issue, and we intend to release a hotfix on amd.com this coming Monday, November 30th.”

Oh, well there is one less thing AMD fanboys will be bringing up when knocking nVidia

I have a Sapphire Fury and I employed my own custom fan settings via MSI Afterburner, so I have not had any problems. I think those guys who are claiming their gpu was damaged by Crimson drivers are most likely inhell and gimpvidia trolls just looking to sabotage AMD (yet again). A small percentage of them may well even be cheap-skates looking to screw AMD out of at least a 390/X under the warranty program (in exchange for their ageing 5000 or 6000 series gpu). TBH, you have to be either a newbie or a complete idiot to play intensive games for hours on end without setting up your fan profile. DUH!!.
Hmm, That problem occurs only in new Trixx Utility !
I have old Moded TriXX and Fan's on Auto, NP with My R280X
Also some of the "users" turned-Off AMD Fuel Service, witch BTW control all OC/Fans etc.
Without it New Crimson don't work Properly !
