Well SDD capacity escalated quickly!
Can some kind person sub me $10,000?
13TB?!
My Hard drive is only 1TB.
$14,000?!?!
They'd better be good for that. Wait - it is MLC? Okay, well at least it'll fit well into these server caddies. No wait, it's too thick. Erm.
I know, I know. It'd probably be ideal, and the cost could be easily absorbed in that business. It's still mega money for mid-spec components in a non-versatile form factor, but it's good that the capcity boundaries are being pushed.
I'd imagine these fit nicely in 3.5" server caddies - at least I really hope they would!
I can also imagine one in my HTPC. How many movies and TV recordings could I store on that. :-)
Been wondering why SSD's had not increased much in size, especially when you look how much empty space is in the newer 2.5" SSD's and (relatively speaking) how long ago we had 1TB nsata SSD's. Although I was more expecting to see something like a 4TB or 6TB before they got near 13TB.
I suppose it is a little easier for the movie industry having one of these, instead of carrying around a 6 bay NAS filled with 2TB SSD's (or a 2 bay NAS with 2x 6TB enterprise HDD's). Price for the NAS with SSD's is a few thousand cheaper though.
But with only a 3 year warranty for a $13,000 investment in a SATA drive, I think I will stay with what I have. :-)
Pretty standard speeds and 3 years warranty. As far as I know - the bigger the capacity, the longer it'll last. I'd want at warranty of min 5 years for such purchase.
Now one of those would make an awesome HEXUS prize
However I would expect to see these incorporated as embedded devices in bespoke applications. Video recording was mentioned, so these could be used in field/outside broadcast recorders.

talking about escalation.i won't even wonder if one day we will see a 500TB hahaha!!!
you don't need 520 MB/s & 100,000 IOPS to store and watch 4K video, rust drive are just fine for now! how many terabytes of rust drive space can you get from $13,000?
I'll second that, I am pretty sure that for all the anti comments, that people would jump at the opportunity to win one. :-)Originally Posted by peterb
