Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

That chat transcript is in middle of conversation, how one would get anything useful out of it is beyond my comprehension. Gathering what tone the start of it is though is probably some pissed customer who cba reading that he agrees to X contract for X months and did not read that there would be early termination fees. So what.?! Why is it adobes fault?!

Because the customer wasn't trying to cancel early, he was trying to prevent renewal "Me: If that's true, this is the 12th month of my subscription. Today would be the day it would renew. I want to cancel before that happens."

Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

It would appear to be Adobe's fault that the customer could not cancel on the last day of the subscription - and it took a manual intervention to do that.

It's not unreasonable to expect to cancel on the last day - UNLESS the terms and conditions stated that a notice period had to be given. That might be the case, but there is nothing in the transcript excerpt to say that is the case.

I'm not a supporter of subscription based services but going on Adobes Subscription Terms they actually went out of their way to cancel this guys subscription, it seems they could have said that he didn't give them 14 days notice.

The crux of the problem here is that subscription renewal services as with insurance, should be that if there is no contact from the customer subscriptions lapse not automatically renew.

Or if auto renewal occurs, the contract drops to monthly instead of yearly.

I switched to alternatives that are pay-once and haven't had any significant issues for my uses.

Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

"Adobe is "working on changes to the website" to allow subscriber customers to cancel without contacting customer support." Why wasn't this there from the beginning... and why does it have to be auto renewing as standard.

Personally I don't see why it needs 14 days to cancel in the same way I don't see why companies need up to 2 weeks to refund me money for an online purchase when they can happily take it within a few minutes.

I really do hate the subscription model which we're gradually being forced into...

Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

I've just checked when my adobe CC renews so I can think about cancelling 14 days before.

I'm on £23.36 for the full cloud, but that's a special offer - don't want to go up to £54 for the same thing

Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

I hated it when adobe changed to this stupid subscription plans. I don't mind buying digitally or even subscribing, but I want a subscription to be optional.

I'm glad many other software companies offer both (like autodesk) and you can opt either to buy once and keep the license for ever (with the need to pay for upgrades) or subscribe.

This software is a tool, I really prefer to rely on older versions when I have financial problems, than being cut out of my tools of trade if I can't meet the payment.

Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

You are wrong about Autodesk. Perpetual licencing is being discontinued. Desktop subscriptions are the thing going forwards and over the long term are much more expensive. Better for business because bla bla.

They will not terminate an existing perpetual licences unless you are late paying the 'old style subscription' fee in which case they have zero tolerance policy and you are forced over to desktop subscription with no way to re-instate your perpetual licence. They are a bunch of greedy gits too. Previously you could pay late renewal fee which wasn't expensive.

Autodesk are right up there with Adobe and Satan.

oh crap... I should have gotten sketchbook pro when I still could

anyway at least this tactic is giving space to new or smaller software companies to breath. Look at Serif with their affinity photo and design for example, great pieces of software, written from scratch which make them very fast on modern hardware, unlike the adobe blotwares that clearly need a refresh (by refresh I mean a complete rewrite...) and they are as good or better than adobe's software. The only problem is that for the time being they are only available for macs... which sucks because not all designers use macs (I own and use a macbook but my main rig is always windows) and I don't see why to switch anymore.

I've also had my eye on Serif's Infinity software, Designer only costs £40 but is mac only

Re: Cancelling an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can be tricky

They told me in tweet more than a year ago that they have plans after the release of affinity photo on mac (it was in beta back then), but there is no news after that.

Do they really believe they cover the windows space with that XP era suite they have available?
