Hm, so is this why I've been getting new insider builds on my laptop at the rate of about one a week for the last couple of months? If so it means they're really pushing for feedback and fixes.

    That.

But with "promoted apps" perhaps MS' "changed monetisation" program becomes clearer, as does the reason for their snooping on users. I would advise MS on where they can stick it, but I'm not sure they could find it with both hands, a SatNav, a bloodhound and an anatomy textbook.

Microsoft can shove Windows 10 where the sun don't shine. I absolutely hate it and I don't agree with that 10 EULA. I will stop using a computer before I use Windows 10. A free update, yeah, more likely a free ripoff.

If this update doesn't bring plugin support to edge then I still won't be using it no matter how efficient it is.

If there is a way,I'll still be using Windows 7 in the future, but Windows is forcing customers to go to Win10, which reveals all their private information to the rest of the world. That is a crime and something should be done.

That's more that just a bit alarmist, don't you think?

    a) they're not forcing anyone. We are currently in a free upgrade period, and yes, they're pushing the upgrade hard, but there are ways to avoid the upgrade if you are so inclined.
    b) Windows 10 doesn't reveal anything to "the rest of the world". There are genuine privacy concerns about how much data MS collect, but they don't reveal it to anyone, and if they did it would be a crime, and something could be done. If they collect that data - with your consent - and process it themselves, they're doing nothing wrong (undesirable, perhaps, but not wrong).

Re: Windows 10 Anniversary to become available on 2nd August

Re B): Microsoft and many other companies are regularly ordered to hand over customers data, from January to June 2013...
Microsoft received fewer than 1,000 orders from the Fisa court for communications content during the same period, related to between 15,000 and 15,999 “accounts or individual identifiers”.

The company, which owns the internet video calling service Skype, also disclosed that it received fewer than 1,000 orders for metadata – which reveals communications patterns rather than individual message content – related to fewer than 1,000 accounts or identifiers.
Arguably it's not a crime in the legal sense though as they're the ones who made the law that gives them the right to do it, I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to do such things BTW just saying they, along with many other tech firms, are compelled to hand over their customers data, personally i take the less they know the better approach.
