It's time to kick @$$ & chew bubblegum and I'm all outta gum!
I doubt we'll be seeing a new game. Sadly DNF just didn't live up to expectation, but it didnt help the developers couldnt properly finish it and it was rushed to finish.
You'd hope it would be a bit more than what the screenshots are revealing.
Sorry... DNF was a horrible mistake.. and someone making a reboot would make it even more horrible.. let the original FPS game remain as a legacy.
Seen too much BF and other games being destroyed.
I hope it comes out on Linux. I've been playing The Megaton Edition on Steam for yonks.
Yeah, DN was a product of it's time and wouldn't go down well in this day and age, it might be possible to reboot Duke & still maintain his spirit without activating the internet/media outrage machine but it would take a degree of skill I don't think Gearbox simply have.
I think it's more of a problem of relevance. If Duke Nukem's irreverence is a selling point, then the imaginary "outrage machine" would have no power (and it never does - it's only a collection of people with similar opinions, criticising aspects of culture). The disgruntlement of a body of disapproving voices would play into the publicity, and a new DN would march away into the sales charts with the galvanised support of its PC-rejecting supporters.
Duke Nukem is a dead joke. It just about worked in its time, as a character mashing up Arnie's physicality and one-liners with decades of questionable American heroes from the cowboy movie era forwards. Now, that joke is weak, drifting away into the distance. Nobody under 30 has a direct cultural connection to it at all. It's like Leisure Suit Larry; once that joked worked when we knew who this washed-up, wannabe playboy Medallion Man was meant to be, but now he's nothing to us.
