And since the trial has a full-time 'driver' present, only 3 passengers really. Not sure what that person does since it has no brakes or steering wheel?! There's only 100 people in the 3-week trial, so it really doesn't need much capacity.

The linked story says

"During the trial, five cameras and three lasers will help it navigate a two-mile path near the O2, also used by pedestrians and cyclists"

, so it sounds like they're planning on using this in pedestrian areas, not on roads.

Since it's developed by Oxbotica, Heathrow Enterprises and Westfield Sportscars, I imagine it might one day replace those electric mobility assistance vehicles at airports and stations.
