These are going to be ridiculously expensive. Even the existing Area 51 can easily be pushed well beyond £5,000, without a monitor or any peripheral options added.

Well CB says that the 14, 16, and 18 core variants aren't out until October:

Whereas the 12-core comes in August. Despite what the Intel fanclub on other forums seem to say, it does sound like the 14+ are rushed because of Threadripper. Now, Threadripper announcement until October is too little time for Intel to rush such a product, but it is possible and likely that some product manager at Intel had planned (for example) the 14-core variant as a backup strategy just in case and that was subsequently rushed.

Although Dell are obviously huge, exclusivity still seems like a dumb move from AMD though, I would have thought they would want as many vendors as possible on board (especially HP). Surely this leaves the door open for Intel to throw themself around all the other vendors and hoover up a whole generation of sales?

Perhaps the exclusivity will a short time before the big core count intel chips are actually on the market? Doesnt seem like that would be worth it.

Could be possible that AMD doesn't have the production capacity to make them for all big vendors and decided to just pick the biggest one first, build up inventory if they can, and then make it available to everyone. Speculation

Exclusivity probably came with a big cheque from dell - good for AMD, and it incentivises dell to shift as many threadripper systems as possible (to make up for the investment)

Seems they've even managed to power those GPUs through bus power alone, along with a cable-less design on the PSU.

Interesting to see 2 SKUs (Intel / AMD) presumably that means thermals between the 2 platforms must be relatively similar!
