a) as a music player Groove is as good as any other basic music player I've used on any platform, so I'd hardly call it useless,
and
b) you could always try reading the article. It's right there in the first paragraph:
users will still be able to use Microsoft's app to playback and manage owned music across devices.

This is a pain in the arse.
I've been using Zune Pass for about 7 years, it was better than spotify, considerably cheaper than spotify.
New Microsoft appear to be hell bent on becoming this century's IBM.
