Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

I tend to run my main PC 24/7 since the days of the Athlon CPU, only rebooting to do updates or solve a stuck GPU clock.

Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

Yes, but mostly in the form of restarting due to updates.

Fully shutting down is more of a rarity, although it does still happen.

Every single time that I won't be using it again very soon. It'll go into "sleep mode" while out walking the dog or whatever.

It's all about saving the trees, and some money while I'm at it.

I shut down my 'workstation/gaming PC' every night. But I leave my file 'server' on all the time.

Linux server is on 24x7, desktop is rarely used and is shut down, laptops are hibernated when not actively in use and the PSUs unplugged.

Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

I used to shutdown most nights, but not too bothered about the 50 watts or whatever cost. Recently I've started Nicehash mining again to take advantage of the crash a bit, and more importantly try and justify my Vega 56 which has done less than an hour of gaming probably, so I am trying to make back the cost of that. It should be relatively easy, I'm making over £50 a month including leccy cost, so that's good, and BTC prices should recover too. So - not shutting down at the moment except for updates and similar, which are restarts, so they don't count anyway.

Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

When I go to bed I shut down but it's basically on the rest of the time (I work from home) unless I'm leaving the house for a long period of time when it also gets turned off.

Mind you it basically costs me nothing to run with solar panels on the roof.

Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

I leave my HTPC on until I have to restart for updates usually. I used to just put my gaming rig in sleep mode, but my RGB RAM is stuck in rainbow unicorn puke mode even in sleep mode, so I shut it down at night since it's in my bedroom. :-/

Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

Yes, especially at night or during the winter as my solar panels aren't producing any power.

Although a modern pc doesn't use a lot of power on idle, but it all adds up and I have never liked wasting money.

Always shut it down when I'm going out or going to sleep. Other than that it stays on.

Re: QOTW: Do you shut down your PC?

I have always shut my pc down and switched off at the wall everytime I am not using it. That would be 3-4 times a day including overnight.
