Sorry Hexus, but I am very surprised by that. Can you explain how you came to that statement? Last year's top end gaming CPU was significantly less than half a grand for example .

    I think it's a fair statement.

£1K seems to be a number companies are targeting for their high end stuff, which has dragged up the price of mid range stuff too.

Even companies that used to be cheap are now close to the pricing of high end stuff 3 years ago.

The article should be edited to say "half a grand is nvidias, and companies who think too highly of themselves, mid range offering and new expected pricing going forwards".

Or it was written to piss off Cat

Yep,because AMD and Nvidia use JPR figures and analysis as part of their own PR:

    https://techpinions.com/amd-gains-bi...currency/52361

Here is another one of their reports from this year:

    https://www.jonpeddie.com/images/upl..._2018_-_V4.pdf

So in the past it was above $250 that high end was defined(well last year at least),but more recently it seems around $350.

LOL,well if they did that then its their own issue?! Hopefully not!!

After all look at the RTX2080TI thread at how many people moaned at the pricing,it felt so warm and fuzzy.

Its even better on OcUK,a forum which I never thought would actually make Hexus look "high end".

Re: Palit GeForce RTX 2070 Dual

I had a quick think about pricing, since £500 is "midrange" I decided to "build" a mid-range PC. Each part will be given a "mid-range" price.

I tried not to go OTT,16GB of RAM is more than enough, and 8C/8T is plenty for a mid-range PC. There was no RTX2070 so a midrange previous generation GTX1080 was used(sorry!). I also went with one SSD as its only a mid tier gaming build, and any more would be too much.

I did get one of the faster Intel SSD jobbies - its really useful when loading up Heroes of the Storm quicker.

Sadly the OS and CPU cooler were under £400,so the build is a bit lop-sided as the OS and CPU cooler are "low-end".

Now,its not all about gamer,so I rustled up an entry level office build, you know for a bit of word processing. I went with a mid-range PSU and HDD,so there is room to turn this into an entry level gaming rig.

    My work here is done!

Re: Palit GeForce RTX 2070 Dual

To have the latest tech, be it mid range or high end, the pricing of PC gaming has now become completely obscene to the point where after 20 years of being a PC gamer, I think the build I have now will be my last ever gaming build. I am just thankful that I built it when the pricing was still normal and that it may last a few more years.

I look forward to the Xbox TWO or PS5.

second hand 1080s are going to sell like hot cakes now! No way am I going to pay top tear prices for mid range cards while nvidia make billions in proffit! Really hoping AMD to come back fighting before I get an old 1080.

    CAT-THE-FIFTH, I salute you sir <o.
    Well done.

Have a budget of up to £500 for a new graphics card? GeForce RTX 2070 is shaping up to be the go-to choice.
Erm, no and no it isn't.

Re: Palit GeForce RTX 2070 Dual

I've brought cards for years now, 3dfx being my first. For me this card looks rubbish performance wise. Sorry but I'd rather pick up a 1080 or 1070ti as this is probably going to cost more.

Am i the only that thinks that even the bottom range of the next generation cards should be beating the previous top end last gen?

Its a shame there is not after all these years a better competitor than Ati/radeon because Nvidia just have too much control over pricing, rather than the market. Its a blatant monopoly comparable to the Oil barrons in the 80's. There has always been a price-differential between top and bottom, but nowadays especially it feels like Nvidia can just artificially-price and price-hike just for the sake of it and there is nothing anyone can do about it. I'm a self-confessed nvidia fanboy though.

Re: Palit GeForce RTX 2070 Dual

So my purchase of a Vega 64 just prior to the release of these RTX cards when the prices dipped is even more pleasing. The cost was around £420/£430 I think for a card that is now £530 (factory overclocked). The performance of the stock card matches this newer model effectively being an insignificant amount slower in most benchmarks and an insignificant amount faster in the others so I expect my OC model to be around the same in overall performance. I expect the RRP of this 2070 card will be breached as soon as it's available.

I am seriously hoping that AMD have something cool in the pipeline as they reaaalllyy do not need to do much to destroy Nvidia in current game performance. Nvidia put far too many transistors into tech that just isn't ready and considering that the top of the range, grand topping models are struggling with ray tracing at even 1080P, I expect that it's going to be almost totally redundant on these models. CEX 2019 is going to be AMD keynoting so with any luck they'll have something in the pipeline and we'll see real competition again.

If people are considering an old Nvidia model, do remember that their older architecture is several years old now and therefore driver support isn't going to be great especially whilst they focus on trying to get the most out of their new Turing tech in order to give people a reason to actually buy it. There are a few considerations such as Vega running quite hot and being a power hog and that Turing drivers are immature and performance will increase over time relative to Vega to name two. That said, Nvidia need to be punished for their attitude to consumers with their pricing and I really think that this just makes the AMD cards more appealing when similar performance can be had for quite a bit less outlay AND without buying a 1080 based on several years old designs.
