    Re: Intel Core i9-9900K

Difficult to swallow it being 100% more than the roughly equivalent Ryzen to be honest... £300 buys a lot of hardware
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!

"Our sample was able go to 5.2GHz across all cores with an extreme 1.45V seeping through its veins, but temperatures would soar past 100ºC, even when strapped to a 280mm Corsair liquid cooler."

    Ohh wow.

    Re: Intel Core i9-9900K

Can Hexus turn off HT and downclock a smudge to emulate a 9700K? I'd be interested to see how 8/8 compares to 6/12.

If you use tdp to calculate Bang4watts, it is wrong:

Since you can see that even though it has a 95w tdp it consume more than the 105w 2700x...at least from your own results...

So even with all their bragging about sTIM, and the thermals are still garbage. How do you screw up sTIM?

Waiting for the Z0mg dat power consumption memes.

Or does that still only apply when it's AMD as an outlier?

    Re: Intel Core i9-9900K

I'm guessing the Ryzen 7 2700X results are from when it was first released? I'm only bringing it up as the 5704 BIOS for the Asus Crosshair VI Hero was a beta BIOS and there's been eleven other versions released since March last year and six updates to AGESA.

That also seems to be the case with the other test setups, they all seem to be using outdated BIOS.

I honestly wouldn't worry overly much at the test set up, the results tell me everything I would want to know between choosing an i9 9900k part or the Ryzen 2700X part. For the minor performance gains, along with the extra speed and power draw taken into account, I'd always opt for the Ryzen part if deciding between the two. That's before even taking into account platform maturity.

    Re: Intel Core i9-9900K

Well this couldn't have been much more disappointing. Still with the vulnerabilities, barely any performance upgrade apart from increased core numbers that only came about because AMD actually did something, poor thermals despite solder, TWICE the price of AMD's 8 core HT product... It's a hard pass from me. If AMD do well early next year, I may even get my first AMD system.

    Re: Intel Core i9-9900K

Price is insane currently due to the manufacturing issues. Also single core frequency is fantastic, makes a difference in loading times, however the 2700x or 9700k seems to be a better choice. Keep waiting a few month...

    Re: Intel Core i9-9900K

Worth a watch of this delidding and re-testing with Liquid Metal compound video by der8auer.

The 9900K runs an average 9°C cooler with switch of TIM.
After die lapping of 0.2mm the chip can run as much as 12.5°C cooler...
