    Typo alert!

S530, sic chip options are listed.

    Should that be Six?

That's OK, if Intel are short of the Xeons that this is certainly rebadged from then I suspect it will be a paper launch at prices no mortal can afford anyway.

Re: Intel Comet Lake-S Desktop CPUs rumoured to sport up to 10 cores

Anyone reminded of how AMD tried to stay competitive not so long since by throwing lots of cores at the problem (knowing it wasn't going to make a jot of difference to most people)?

Intel had such a long time in the lead to do some proper R&D and keep some innovations held back ready to throw out if this situation happened. But they didn't. They just kept rolling in the excess profit rather than being prudent and it has seriously come back to bite them. Hard.

That sounds about right, Intel is doing a lot of investor cuddling with their paper launches recently. It makes me think they've not actually done any R&D since Skylake...

They could run lower clock speeds, that would be throwing away their main advantage over AMD though.

Re: Intel Comet Lake-S Desktop CPUs rumoured to sport up to 10 cores

No intel for me next year, only AMD 7nm has a shot at my desktop 8700k replacement (handing that to dad next year). I hope watts and game perf are up to snuff this time. It should be an easy win IMHO, but it is AMD after all. LOL. Fingers crossed. AMD already has my APP attention, just need more cores, speed, games and at 7nm hopefully decent watts/heat (these two are most important to me at this point). They really can't fail here, it's pretty much a done deal for me. The watts/heat can't be worse than current models and I expect to get 10core under 8core heat/watts (maybe 12?) at 12nm. Even AMD should be able to get in 2 more cores for less heat/watts with skipping 10nm to 7nm irregardless of how tsmc process is compared to intel. Really doubt 10 core TSMC 7nm is worse than 8 core GF 12nm.

If they'd put out a decent 7nm APU (8 core+good gpu please), I could see replacing the 4700k with it

85w too please, none of this pussy 65w crap. Don't slow me down. I can downclock it if desired. Put out a diff speed for laptops or something, but desktop should be 85-90w butt kicking apu. You lost my on the 2400g due to this. Not good enough. Put out a KING, or go home.

Aye, I've been wanting to upgrade my 2700K for a while now. Every new release has been so disappointing I've kept putting it off, but I've reached a point of necessity, and Zen2 looks really interesting. I hope they crush Intel.

That type of chip would be expensive. Vega cores aren't small!

It is great seeing Intel panicking, they deserve a good kick for how they've treated users over the years.

You clearly don't know much about die sizes of current cpus or gpus. For example, 580gpu die size is 232mm^2. Surely at 7nm you could fit that on an apu...LOL.
14nm 2400g from AMD is 209mm^2 for $169 at launch. What do you think that costs for the same thing at 7nm? Cost to make a 7nm version of the chip is well under $80 no doubt. Look at apple below for A12 w/modem from Intel.

16nm 1070ti is 314. Can you imagine this exact chip at 7nm?

    https://videocardz.com/76487/amds-7nm-vega-is-much-smaller-than-14nm-vega
Vega 7nm assumed under 300mm^2. Slap 200mm^2 of that on a Zen2 and call it a day. AMD 2700x die is 192mm^2 @12nm which should mean the exact chip or so in 7nm would be ~128-130. Again, you could make a mint on these things at ~$400. I'm only asking for 1080p gaming here. It's not that hard at 7nm, heck throw in some HBM2 (intel did 4gb on 8809g and that's 14nm). 8GB of HBM2 in 2017 was $160. We are talking 4GB HBM2 2019 style meaning far less than $80 they say 4GB costs right?
    https://www.fudzilla.com/news/graphics/43731-vega-hbm-2-8gb-memory-stack-cost-160
That was May2017. Q1-Q2 2019 should be far below $80 for 4GB. 100mm^2 tegra chips were made for $15-20 and sold for $28 to mipad's according to their own data sheets and NV pays a fab. Google/msft got them for $23-25. Intel likely builds 400mm^2 chips (hedt not long ago) for $100 or less.
"Our sources have implied that in normal cases GDDR5 / GDDR5X memory cost a few times less than the $80 for 4GB. This makes Vega or any other HBM 2 card much more expensive, as the Bill of Materials (BOM) explodes compared to traditional GDDR5 / GDDR5X cards."

Ok then, put some GDDR5x on it We talking $20 here for 4GB? Few times LESS than $80 in 2017.

    Intel 8700k 151mm^2 14nm++.
    https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-hades-canyon-nuc-vr,5536.html
Do something like this chip. Intel just bought AMD's chip and slapped it together. This should be much easier for AMD at 7nm. Or take the easy way and just do the same thing at 7nm. They know interposers already or go MCM like intel (simpler chip, raising yields etc).

I rest my case. BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME...LOL. Not sure why they keep avoiding it NOR why they let Intel do it first. Intel makes a killing on margins in those things. COMPETE dang it AMD. It would seem you can EASILY build one for $200 (likely far below if GDDR5x) and sell it for $300-400 with 50% margins again, far above console crap of 10-15% margins, and basically high end desktop margin from AMD. I'm just looking for a BETTER model of 8809g from AMD at 7nm with 4GB of WHATEVER is cheapest. Simple, cost effective, less parts to die etc. HTPC city with the ability to throw in a 7nm/5nm gpu later if needed for a 4k TV at some point (good for desktops at 1080p too, and 66% of 125mil steam users running that res). I'm sure they could profit from versions that would beat the 8809g for $200 at 7nm and still make decent margins. $20 for mem (surely GDDR5x now $20 or less for 4GB based on may 2017 semiaccurate data from MULTIPLE sources), and $100 in silicon. Even if you had to add $50, you make good money at $250-300 on $170 cost. It sure beats console crap margins. They were single digits for year on xbox one/ps4 and that isn't good on 10-20mil units yearly then. This is why console never made them more than 120mil and was STUPID, just as NV said. AMD keeps chasing the poor, while rich make NV/Intel wads of cash.

Make it ~120w or less and I'll slap an Hyper 612 V2 (180w,20dba, AWESOME BTW, need more slap a diff fan on it) on it and lets get this party started IF they really need to get die size down make them faster 6 core instead of 8. Should bring the die down to around 100-110mm^2. CPU side would be peanuts. We aren't trying to get Vega 56 levels here ($399). I just want a good gaming HTPC. There are probably better HSF's, just using an example of what I'm using on 8700k (mass overkill BTW, but silent).

    https://www.techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/apple-iphone-xs-teardown/
Iphone xs 7nm 87mm^2 chip $72 (but that includes the cost of Intel 4G modem - ~$15-20, Qcom's are $15 to apple before). So 7nm soc around $57 at 87mm^2. That gives an idea of AMD ~100-110mm^2 6 core. $70? +~$20 for 4GB GDDR5x? Add whatever Vega gpu side is. Include whatever costs $80 and lets do this AMD! Clearly you can make these and sell them from $250-400 depending on speeds etc and make good money. 3-4 chips $250, 330, 400? Heck at GDDR5x costs, slap in 6-8GB on the top two models as it clearly won't add much to the BOM and will greatly enhance perf probably in many games. Up all night, but should make sense...ROFL.
