Agreed... AMD have Intel under pressure across desktop, HEDT and Server markets... and I'm really hoping it's not long before Zen 2 makes a solid appearance in the laptop/tablet space.
2020 could also be interesting in GPU land, with AMD set to launch higher-end, Ray Tracing capable chipsets. Intel launch their new family of discrete GPUs, whilst NVidia are rumoured to be pushing ahead quickly with next gen RTX cards as well.
Come on AMD, stop it...stop being competitive, give Intel a chance.

Bit sooner than I was expecting in all honesty though.
I'd still rather them bring the price of the 3960x down a little though if I'm being honest, but then I'd argue the 3950x might be a better overall buy the ram/pcie lanes.

Time to buy Intel Shares when they drop down for long term investment, also it is about time, not that I am a fanboy of whatever brand, I just like to see good priced stuff out there without having to sell a kidney all the time....

But i am locked into TR4 socket for a while, which still give me some options in the future with the CPUs that do plug into that.
2970WX still sound pretty good to me, and are 2X of what i have, so still a substantial update.

Me too and i am glad i have been able to be there for AMD this time around too and build a all AMD machine, though last when AMD was the buy to go for i did not have a AMD / ATI GFX card in my machine.
Its been Intel for a while by my own will, or winning hardware ( ABIT motherboard ) that "forced" me to go buy another intel CPU
O and just now i realized that after the original Athlon way back in the day i also had a dual core Opteron 165 ( codename Denmark ) which gave me much joy and i overclocked the hell out off running the 1.8 GHZ chip at 2.5 GHZ
I wonder how long AMD have been sitting on this, seems a touch suspect that this and the new Intel stuff both get reviews on the same day...
Intel brought forward their embargo to release it same day. It was mentioned https://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=28546 so guessing they wanted to stave off the bruising...
But given its going to be at least 1yr if not 2 for intel to completely redesign and fab a chip that isnt horribly vunerable to spectre etc... this kicking wont be their last.
Intel's stock is described as "transcends speculation". They've been fairly stable given this hammering. Bear in mind their market position and that they have many companies over a barrel. Their business position is very secure for the foreseeable and that's what investors go on. They will have no idea as to the real meaning of all the stuff we're discussing because they're investors, not nerds.
I'd also consider that the performance of these kinds of chips is way beyond the requirements of most people and it is therefore priced outside of the wallets of most people. This being said, the previous generation threadripper is probably going to be a steal soon. These chips are aimed at people who have calculated the savings they'll make from the increase in compute speed and offset that against the cost. I'd love a Threadripper, but it would be a willy waving contest and nothing more. There are some awesomely priced AMD parts out there for us mere proles at the moment of which I shall be availing myself shortly.
Threadripper is not a chip for the masses and when you look at the released benchmarks you'll find that it doesn't play nice with some games (COD Black Ops [not sure which version] and FC5) and is therefore not suited for general use.
We are also in a situation where we actually have real market progress for once rather than Intel holding back. They're getting punished good and proper for their behaviour and I'm quite happy to see it. AMD is finally in a position where they can charge a premium for market-disrupting tech. I'm glad to see it as, instead of "tick, tick, tock" minute development, we have a relentless march forward with real performance gains every single time. They deserve to reap the rewards, especially if they're able to really throw money back into the company after paying their long-suffering investors. Remember when they sold their fab and we all went "this is the end of AMD!"? Well, looking at the makeup of their new chips, that looks like a shrewd move. They just choose whoever has the best process for what they need to do at the time so they're always at the front.
The ONLY part where Inhell is winning on price V performance is in the PCI-e lanes but even there, there are questions about performance when using the Intel chips.
From what I can see, AMD has the market properly tied up probably until 2021 as Intel just don't seem to have anything competitive ready to go until at least 2022.
They seem to see this as an opportunity to buy back stock using their huge cash reserves, which will help prop up the price.
