Command and Conquer remaster FMV discussed

Most of the original FMV footage had been lost in time, so EA had to be creative.

Wow a great video from EA.
Huge shame the original footage were lost, but in a way I liked the pixelation of the game videos.
I thought it worked really well as an effect.

TBH i think i would just have re-shot those sequences with new actors.
To me those parts are secondary and don't need to deserve to stay 100% faithful to the originals, and IMO it would be better than going with the old material, though that's also a avenue.

It's very disappointing that the original source footage was lost.

Hopefully the upscaling can be done as carefully as possible for it to look as good as possible.

I'm with the Viking in wishing they'd just re-shoot the video sequences, as the originals were pretty poor and very hammy!

I know that kind of thing holds charm for some people, but if this is going to be a premium priced remaster, perhaps the original vids would have been better served up as bonus material - especially given the strength of the free of charge OpenRA project [ you can play the original Command & Conquer in 4k today if you have the desire - and with the original videos if you have the original CDROMS up in your loft ;-) ]

That was the entire point, though. The games have their tongue firmly lodged in its cheek, throughout the series. Take away the ham and it's not half as fun.

which is kinda why they're re-releasing a game older than that...

Re: Command and Conquer remaster FMV discussed

Well don't EA still exist ? if so they must be doing something right.
Or maybe it is cuz EA are bad, but people still buy their stuff, but to me that say just as much about people as it do EA.
BUT yes i think RA was probably the last EA game i played.

I am wondering what they will charge for this remastered game,,,,, probably as much as a brand new game,,,,,,, and that would be very very bad.

Playing C&C and red alert i think my handle was Viking.66, this was on a friends dual ISDN line, personally i waited a while with that internet fab until i could get a flat rate connection, and that became 512/512 kbit on DSL

Just to be sure i have transmitted the reactivation code to my LOIC
