Aww my 1700x/2070 isn't enough for 1440p@144... maybe I should upgrade with Zen 2
Good luck finding an RTX 2060 8Gb....
I think a 1700 and a 1070 will play this game fine. Just don't use MSAA or RTX crap and game will run fine most likely at 1080. MSAA is usually the source of the killing of frames. You can get a very huge boost in fps by turning it off and just using FXAA/TXAA. Now I can see how many people would have a fit about 16GB. Most gamers only run 6-12GB ram. I am also pushing people to get 8GB video cards and don't cheap out. If you can get a 2070 on sale then do so. Or get a AMD card that is close to a 2070 with 8GB. Since the game has vulcan I'm hoping for better performance than on directx only.

" Thankfully Bethesda / id Software have now released indicative minimum and recommended PC specs, and they are pleasingly low"
Um, a 970/1060 as a minimum seems like quite a high requirement to me... Just looking at borderlands 3 and control as just two examples had the 1060 as recommended and gtx 680/780 respectively as their minimums. It does seem like it's coming up to upgrade time for my 970 though. Hopefully GPU prices this year aren't a massive let down.
The original DooM made people (myself included) upgrade their 386 so they weren't playing in a zoomed out postage stamp. They have a long history of pushing the limits with games, probably the first company to really do so.
You can play this on a £130 RX570, probably with a Ryzen 1600AF with 8GB of ram, a spec many people already exceed.
It sounds like the threading is improved, I would love to know how well an old FX 8350 ran it, I suspect it would do OK
I think it more depends on how bad the graphics are at low versus a higher setting...
Those recommendations for 1080p / 60 FPS / Low Quality Settings do seem a little high though if I'm being honest.
Does this mean the game won't run on say a 1050 ti or that it won't run at 1080p 60 fps?
A 1050ti has the same 4GB of vram as the minimum spec cards so I'm sure it would run, just you would need to lower settings or resolution.
Interesting to see there are no 2GB or even 3GB cards in the list.
Perhaps they mean a 2060 Super?
Edit: Probably not, 2060 is about on par with a 1080 isn't it.

1080 is a little faster, but it is interesting how the drivers on older gen stuff get left behind and that you can jump into the next sku for a better value over a generation. you can regularly get 2060s under 300 quid yet the 1080 is 250ish used. If i could quantify value, I know which i'd go for.

I don't think so. Doom came out in 2016 and used the id Tech 6 engine. Now they are using the id Tech 7 engine. Naturally, it would require something a little beefier to play. They are pushing tech forward, and that leads to needing more powerful hardware to get shiny things.Originally Posted by FRISH
