OOooh. Looking forward to Star Wars Squadrons. Hope it is THE modern-day successor to X-Wing that it is hoping to be, especially as after buying the humble bundles, X-Wing didn't work

X-wing was mostly famous for a fantastic single player campaign. This looks to have a short campaign as a primer for the multiplayer focus. Which is fine, and very the way of modern games, but expectations of X-Wing will be missed.

    HOTAS support is in too.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Apex is still a thing? I thought Warzone had taken over

Really looking forward to squadrons. If they can balance it properly so that a HOTAS makes sense to use and isn't a huge detriment, i'll be all over that!

Hmmm... looks phenomenal - but like @Kalniel said, single player was positioned as little more than an extended tutorial in this gameplay preview.

Will definitely hold fire on this until the reviews are out and more of the game's structure is laid bare.

Ill play it, as long as a Joystick is a requirement to actually play the game...

Re: Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay shared at EA Play Live 2020

    I mean, it looks interesting...

What they really need is Battlefront game that perfects that combination of space and ground battle from the OG Battlefront II, but just on a grander scale rather than keeping the two as different game modes. Kind of like the rumours about the upcoming Beyond Good and Evil game which claims you will be able to go from flying in space to standing on a planet. Not that it would happen, but it was an exciting aspect of the OG game.

Let's see if they actually get it right first time with Squadrons, as it took Battlefront 2 (2017) a long time to become playable and eventually a fun game.

I cannot wait to play this in VR. Amazing that EA actually bothered to cater for VR on this title. I would have expected them to go down some exclusivety route as well. Could EA be changing finally?

Massive amount of unlocks and COSMETICS just by playing the game.

BUT do this mean they won't sell separate unlock packs, this is not an multiplayer game so what is stopping the most greedy game company in the world to make extra money by offering quick unlock packs for $$$.

As this game will support HOTAS, can someone recommend to me a good HOTAS setup which won't break the bank?

    Cheers in advance.

    Depends on three factors:

1/. How much money you have. A decent HOTAS will easily be £100. Others are as low as £40, but they're definitely very cheap.

2/. How much functionality you require. A full HOTAS is designed to replace all the keys on your keyboard, including key combinations.

3/. What other games you'll use this for. I freely admit I got my HOTAS purely for Elite: Dangerous and a couple of helicopter sims, but have since used it in other games mainly because I already had one.
If you're only playing this one game, then perhaps a simple, cheap-ish joystick with some extra buttons will be enough.... do NOT buy a Saitek F.L.Y. 5!!!
The Logitech 3D Pro is a far better buy.

So, as a bit of a HOTAS enthusiast, here are some options.....

About the best HOTAS for the money is probably the Thrustmaster TM16000M, which is available as either just the joystick with buttons on the base and a throttle slider, same joystick but with a separate throttle unit and loads more buttons, or both stick and throttle but with a set of pedals too.
Last I looked, prices were about £100, which is pretty reasonable for what you get in the box(es).

If you can find one at a tolerable price, the old Logitech G940 HOTAS is well worth it.

To the side of these is the Saitek stuff (formerly owned by MadCatz, now owned by Logitech), such as the X52, the X52 Pro, X56 Rhino, X65 and so on. Very pritty-pritty Gamerz designs, but build quality is rather janky. Your best bet for this lot is to get an old X52 Pro from before Saitek got bought up by MadCatz, back when the quality was still OK.

Above this, you have the CH Products kit, mainly the Fighterstick, Combatstick or Flightstick, paired with the Pro Throttle, and they also do pedals if you want them.
It's a bit more expensive and doesn't have lights all over the place, but the function and build quality are great. Sticks and throttle are sold separately. The design is based off an F16 and looks very 80s (because it kinda is) but those who owned these back in the 80s are still using them (with a PS2 to USB conversion) today, because they're that well built. Modern versions run off USB and while there is software to heavily config it, the basic functions are Windows plug & play, no drivers needed.

Beyond that you're looking at the Thrustmaster Warthog, which is currently silly money, unless you have lots to burn or are heavily into hardcore flight sims and space games.

Down the bottom end, the Thrustmaster T-Flight is very popular for casual gaming and testing the water without going full HOTAS-geek.

Re: Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay shared at EA Play Live 2020

Call me cynical, but I'm not remotely looking at game information, let alone an EA game until it's actually released. far too much money has been wasted on fake promises, missing features and pointless grinds to sell 'surprise mechanics'...

Let's all get off the star wars hype train until then.

If this is anywhere near as good as Fallen Order then it'll be a smash hit

I hope it's much, much, much better. Fallen order started well but quickly became a Dark Souls like frustrating experience. Could have been so much better tho!

    do NOT buy a Saitek F.L.Y. 5!!!

May I ask why not as I have one of these and randomnly half way through a level the trigger button, hat and all thumb switches stopped working but the flight stick, throttle and base buttons are still working. The windows USB set up gaming device confirm no input from these buttons is my flight stick broken?

    Thanks
