Have they finally fixed the wired backhaul ? Got the RBS50 based system and anytime the power goes off to one of them it reverts back to wireless backhaul and slows everything down.
Stilll will stick with cables.. someone change my mind?
An apparently High end performance for an undoubtedly high end price.
For what it does, and my needs, it's way, way too expensive to even consider.
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
The thing about wan tho is that the routers will generally not be able max out on throughput, they require huge amounts of processing power to push even 1gbps. I found out the hard way when got a 100£ router and it only pushed 300 or so mbps through WAN, while doing easy 1+ gbps on lan.
Since there is nothing remarkable about this device, maybe? the reason it costs so much is that it could? push the 2.5gbps? Tho I doubt it, looks like marketing wan* to me
As long as you are on at least gigabit ethernet then it would be daft to try and change your mind
My house is cabled up with gigabit, and I also have a 4x4 wifi 6 router (TP Link AX11000). Whilst in the right conditions I can indeed pull slightly faster (internal) transfer speeds over a wifi 6 connection, I don't really need those sorts of speeds on my mobile devices (they are happy at 400-450) and it also really needs to be in the right conditions to achieve it in the first place.
I also only have two wifi 6 devices, so testing this is a bit of a pain
The real benefit of wifi 6 is the increased capacity - each of my devices that do need to be wireless now have more bandwidth to share, which is great.
Ridiculously expensive, there's other mesh systems which perform pretty well, may be not as fast but far cheaper.
As for me I'm all cabled up, so it's only mobile devices including a couple of laptops that are on the AC wireless and the speed is more than adequate for them.
I would be interested in reviews of solutions at a more budget friendly price point. Most people won't use the wireless speed of this system. It would also be more interesting to compare a mesh system to a powerline based wifi extender as that's what I have and for £40 I have reasonable wifi down to nearly the bottom of the garden. Comparing this to a single wifi router is also not that useful as we already know a single wifi router can't provide adequate wifi across all of an average size house or even a small house or a flat in many cases.
Also consider a pair of 1200 powerline adaptors that are connecting at 1120Mbps and compare those to using the ethernet ports on the mesh system for over 10x the price.
