Who would be an early adopter! I'm still smarting that my Gigabyte 1080ti failed one week outside warranty and they did not honour the £60 repair pledge advising they no longer stocked the part needed. That was power related part failure.

Re: Nvidia partners respond to GeForce RTX 3080 crash issues

it is probably caused by everyone's dodgy memory overclocking, with the best game for testing would be doom 2016 ( or eternal i have not bothered with ) the texture cache is in physical memory instead of VRam, so everything is taken from physical RAM per frame throughout the whole map and is one of the main reason's the game can easily run at 200 FPS on low end systems

Re: Nvidia partners respond to GeForce RTX 3080 crash issues

To make the issue go away users were recommended to underclock/undervolt their RTX 2080 GPUs using the usual OC tools.
Quite how that's going to help the 3080 problems I don't know

Doom 2016/Eternal does not do this.

I spotted that too. Maybe to make 3080 users feel better when they have to downvolt theirs too?

If the 2080 users knock the power down on theirs as well then the 3080 users will still have the same performance increase vs the older cards

Yeah I've seen stuff about this on youtube too... Jayztwocents took off the base plate of some different cards, including a colorful one which had been stopped from being released/reviewed by the company, and it does seem like it comes down to those poscaps under the core being 'too weak' to stop the interference or something when overclocked and at higher voltage.

I don't think it's quite that simple. I think it's more that the AIB cards just weren't fully verified and debugged and some are having problems. That is due I suspect to Nvidia giving them the chips late and the AIB's rushing the design+testing. The AIB's will at some point fix their cards in a new revision (which might or might not involve changing the poscaps - that depends on how the AIB implemented the rest of their board) and it'll all go away. Until then it's buyer beware.

Depending on the caps used it can't clock nevermind overclock.

Re: Nvidia partners respond to GeForce RTX 3080 crash issues

If AMD got a good hand this time they could make a killing i am sure.

And regarding those that complain about driver issues with AMD and crashing, then i will agree that the AMD driver DPT could do with a boost, but i have now been running my computer ( threadripper and 5700XT ) for over a year and i have only had a couple of crashes in that time.
And i am not 100% sure those was on the GFX driver.

As i dont play much that might be my fortune, though as i recall all my crashes have been in windows just browsing and not when playing or editing video, so TBH i am more inclined to blame windows.

PS. i do have a 500 MHZ overclock on my CPU, and as i have 64GB of 3600 MHZ RAM, then i can not run at those speeds, so i run at a slightly slower speed + improved timings which the computer will let me do.'above 32Gb and i have to throttle back a little on my RAM.

I dont bother with GFX OC, CUZ i find that is not really needed in this day and age, not least with my use.
Okay the CPU OC was also not really needed, but those few clicks in the bios i can manage, but like in the old days OCing all day trying to extract every single MHZ i cant be bothered with.

They're not poscaps, poscaps are a Panasonic brand name for a type of polymer cap (I'm only regurgitating what Actually Hardcore Overclocking said in this video mind). This seems to be entirely on Nvidia as AIB card designs (from what he believes) wouldn't leave the door until they've passed Nvidia muster, the position of those caps along with what is or isn't acceptable replacements for AIB's to use would've been in the Nvidia specs also so this is entirely on Nvidia.

EDIT: BTW anyone not used to AHO videos he tends to waffle and go off on tangents at time, personally i like that but some may find it annoying.

Oddly I never had a single issue with AMD drivers until Adrenalin came out, then it was just a soggy mess. Nvidia drivers? No issues, ever.

I flip flopped over the years between AMD and Nvidia, but my god those AMD drivers are truly buggy rubbish. I don't need a way to overclock / underclock my GPU in the drivers, I just need them to be stable and work.

Well, I did find it annoying.
Still after listening to him for 15 minutes making a big thing about the difference between POSCAPs and similar looking caps, he eventually had something more interesting to say.
Now I know why seldom listen to youtube reviewers...
BTW, I did actually watch Igor's video - he also likes to ramble off tangent but you have to be able to understand German to listen to his ramblings.
