Re: QOTW: What tech are you looking forward to in 2021?

Being able to buy CPUs and GPUs at:
    1.)RRP
2.)An RRP which is not a massive increase in generational pricing

When I say RRP,I mean the USD pricing. All this fancy tech is all great, but ultimately for a lot of people our income is not going up at the same rate these prices are. Then when the new stuff goes up,the older stuff does not drop much in pricing and the secondhand market also stays relatively high. When this happens repeatedly over a few years, even if you are willing to wait,it does seem to screw things up a bit!

A full fat 3070 with 16GB vram but I fear that's wishful thinking.

    It isn't - Lenovo a few months leaked a RTX3070TI 16GB. I think if the RTX3060 is 12GB,then I can see Nvidia refreshing their line-up too.

Looking forward to seeing what new lower end tech we'll get, especially on the GPU front.

It'll also be interesting to see if AMD has anything lower then the 5600x planned or not and what ever intel can come up with to hopefully bring at least some competition to the cpu market even if it is still on 14nm.

Hope so, but I think they've scavenged the parts into the mobile 3080 instead. I think the desktop 3070ti will be 3080 parts (GA102) rather than full fat GA104 which I'd prefer.

Looking forward to see if foldable phones mature a bit more and come down a bit in price. If so that's probably my next major tech purchase.

Re: QOTW: What tech are you looking forward to in 2021?

Mostly just stuff that is already out actually being in stock and perhaps even dropping in price, either because newer versions come out or because companies need to make sales and people aren't currently able to afford the ridiculous prices. VR kit, GPUs, folding phones, mini-laptops, all that kind of stuff.

I am a bit of a torch geek and Olight seem to be doing quite well with the Perun Mini, which I am hoping will prompt Fenix to release an updated version of their own HM50R to trump it, as it's now about 4 years old, I think.
They almost managed it with their LD15, with the magnetic tail cap and red LED modes, but then shot themselves in the foot with the fixed clip, rubber USB cover and stupid battery life.
Then again, I'm sure Nitecore will pop up with something insanely off the wall and gimmickally cool that I end up buying.

Plenty more things I look forward to, but I don't think 2021 will be the year any of it becomes available.

Re: QOTW: What tech are you looking forward to in 2021?

A new GPU could be nice. I did want one last year but I started playing genshin which is less demanding and taking up my time and we all know what availability is like. A 3080ti could be an interesting choice, but a grand would be too much of a premium for me. It depends what prices are like when availability is decent.

Though I will say I started feeling a little optimistic for the new year, but given recent reactions over the other day in the US that has changed. There is legitimate hatred that is passed on overseas.

    Here, here!

For me, expanding that a bit, said gfx card must be capably of sub 150W power consumption whilst driving an HP reverb G2 at 90 FPS or whatever it needs.
Plus a new motherboard, CPU, cooler, RAM and 2TB NVMe SSD
