So how much was the actual cost of the whole thing? I know "each VSA-100 was under US$20"... just curious

I remember 3dfx Voodoo... think there's an old game I have and wanted to play a while back, needing this. But couldn't get the game to work.

Not likely, wasn't crysis a GeForce game? so long ago... But bet it'll happily run Half-Life

Also, if anyone's interested, this is what happened to 3dfx:

Re: 3dfx Voodoo 5 6000 recreated via reverse engineering

So many fond memories of 3DFX cards. I had my Voodoo 3 running in a server right up until it blew up in 2008 in the hosting center. So close to setting off the fire suppression system That was both a sad and rather entertaining day in my career.

I really wanted a Voodoo 4/5 at the time, but sadly was too poor to upgrade, and the VD3 did enough of a job really. Well, it let me play half life anyway.

This is a pretty cool, impressive project regardless!

That's an impressive piece of work, and brings back the nostalgia!

I still have a legacy PC with a Voodoo3-3000 that I keep around for old time's sake. It's an AMD K6/3-400 with 256MB PC-100 RAM adn Win98. I've still got my original Orchid Righteous 3dfx, pair of Voodoo 2's, a Voodoo 5 of some sort, and my PowerVR Apocalypse 3Dx in the bits box as well.

Indeed as looks of games have become better, they have piled om all kinds of crap, so much so i find it hard to find any game to buy and play.

Ill take a good DX8 game over anything today.

He should have kept quiet, manufactured a few and sold them on ebay and made a fortune!

Graphics firm 3dfx was a pioneer in PC 3D acceleration. Not was, but IS the Pioneer in the PC industry from about 1996.
