Part of me wants to buy one. Another part of me sees 8GB RAM, and 512GB storage for just under £1700.
No doubt it'll be a further £1000 just to up the storage 1TB and have 16GB RAM.
If this was running a full OS without all the restrictions on software/usage that iOS has then it wouldn't feel too bad (and in all honesty, I'm expecting OS-X on iPad Pro sooner rather than later).
Having said that every time I even consider an Apple product (I do design so they always pop up from time to time) these days there is just something that keeps putting me off and some of that is cost (or more accurately value) and some of that is the walled garden of iOS (and I think os-x is heading that way too)
Not to mention I'm not exactly a fan of what they've been doing of late business wise when it comes to competitors.
The new airtag is clearly a tile copy (with some updated tech) and greater integration into the OS without all the restrictions they'd stuck onto tile (and others like them) a few OS updates ago in the name of 'privacy'..... who's going to go with a competitor when you've got to jump through hoops to use it properly when apple's own version just works.... tile have a complaint with the EU over this iirc, along with spotify regarding subscription fees etc
So the premium over the same MacMini is the whooping 750£.
Knowing that hardware costs Apple even less then with Intel, we can say Apple attained new (very very high) level of greediness.
The more you live, less you die. More you play, more you die. Isn't it great.
To be fair you can put some of that premium on the display being used and while I hate the marketing spiel Apple uses for their displays they would cost a fair bit (at least on the 12inch iPad Pro) due to the 'quality' of the output etc.
Still agree with the greediness side of things but to be fair part of that is down to shareholders wanting to keep making money when anyone with common sense can see that Apple is majorly overvalued on the shares front... what exactly do they have worth a lot of value if they lose iPhone/iOS users, they're not like MS (similar value etc) with their diverse portfolio of things making them money and increasing in some areas too.

I've been looking at moving from an iPad mini to an iPad for the last few months, I'll wait until some decent reviews come out before I decide to part with that sort of cash, I suspect the trade in value for my 5th Gen mini is about to drop a bit...
Have Apple sorted out the M1 Mac write issue yet? Wouldn't touch one until that's been properly resolved.
Other than that, don't like the chin, and can't help but think the cables should all terminate in the base unit, rather than the screen. Dangling cables? How very unApple!
The best part is the display, really. But you really need to be doing stuff warranting such a high end display to justify the thing. I seem to remember the Mac Mini was something like £300 when I got my Air. It was a serious consideration at the time. Now £750 for a base unit?!
My biggest problem with Apple is the repair cost scam. Machines which cost a fortune but which aren't designed to last. Simple failures caused by a USB charging chip should be a really easy repair, until you find Apple had their own bespoke USB charging chip made and they've contracted the OEM to never sell them to anyone else. No third party repairs and oh, Apple will also only ever prescribe a "logic board replacement" which will cost you about 75% of what a new Mac will cost and lose all your data.... so you'd better be paying for iCloud!
The stuff I've seen on Apple boards looking around - connectors with 50V backlight lines next to a data line to the CPU.... right under a common fluid ingress point. No protection around the pin for the 50V rail in case of problems, nothing to ensure it shorts to ground and protects the components / CPU. Oh and there are even spare pins on the connector, so you could have a 3 or 4 pin gap between these things... but no, Apple "think different" and decide to create an issue that means a single spot of rain means a new CPU / "logic board" at stupidly high prices.
Or how about the Apple "unibody" which was not a unibody, it was glued right next to the heatsink so the glue melted and they fell apart.
These are basics of PCB and industrial design and should never make it to market except in cheap knock-off products. They are designed to fail (or they are monumentally incompetent), the 3rd part repair market is purposefully neutered until they can get donor parts / they can't even access diagnostic software and you have no choice but to take it to a genius who will plug it into a machine that says "replace logic board" whilst playing a little "CHEEERRR CHING!" noise.
Oh and there's the slave labour thing. NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A PRODUCT THIS EXPENSIVE. Primark, you can understand. A company charging what Apple do doesn't really have an excuse aside from "the ribbon cables are so tiny and fragile (the ones we make too short, deny there's an issue but lengthen it on later models and for replacement parts) that you need little children's fingers to assemble the machines".
Boils my pi....
/rant.
The blue one looks smart, though Apple prices would mean I'd probably go for a Zen 4 system this/next year instead, if I was in the market for a new computer.
Ive been looking to waste more money on something thats not upgradable or serviceable etc this ticks the boxes D:
Macs, backwards = scam... just saying

Display, design are awesome. The rest is as always, too little hardware for too much money - photoshop needs at least 16-24 gb ram to work with 30MP image.
Yes, putting the RAM onto the package does wonder for their latency and power usage (plus the impressive scores of their iGPU might have something to do with the memory model too), but really limits any professional usage.
But as the Toaster showed, Apply just use the word 'Pro' as marketing term.
