Nvidia's v470 driver series will be last to support Kepler GPUs

But the long-term driver maintenance releases (bug fixes etc) should span a further 3 years.

The article makes a good point about 710 type GPUs, esp for AMD builders. For non-gamer PCs, you need a GPU for >4 core AMD CPUs, but if you have to budget more than about 50ukp, then Intel starts looking competitive again. The 710-type cards fitted that bill perfectly - lower cost (still expensive now - used to be around 25-35ukp) GPUs that were competitive/comparable with integrated Intel GPUs for business / non-gamer systems that weren't doing GPU-heavy tasks.

Effectively we now have to go for the 1030 at 60-90ukp. Or just accept old drivers...

Could take a year or two for the component market to settle down - and that assumes no further mining crazes take hold in the mean time.

After 'proof of work' (CPU/GPU) and 'proof of storage' (SSD/HDD/CPU), maybe someone's working on a 'proof of print' or 'proof of decibels' crypto-currency to send the prices of inkjets, audio cards and headphones sky-high too ;-)

Will this mean that all the GPU's from Wish will stop working now

1030 don't work on non uefi motherboards effectively anything older than sandy bridge 2500k's will be not working, which is silly imo

This is true but how long is acceptable to keep tailoring your software to people using 10+ year old hardware?

Nothing has actually stopped working - effectively it's gone down to getting yearly maintenance driver releases. It's not like Nvidia were doing anything for Kepler in their current ones anyway. On the plus side Nvidia can now take out kepler crud out of the drivers which means less bloat.

Fingers crossed that nonsense is over now, and we are just waiting for stock to turn up in shops.

Looks like peak Eth mining happened on May 20th at 643TH/s: https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

In the last few days the network has dropped by 40TH/s, which if my maths is right is about the equivalent of 100000 RTX 3060 ti cards dropping off the network every day. I can't see a corresponding rise in something like Ravencoin (which is also dropping) so either those rigs are being mothballed, or they are broken up and sold. Or half a million part time miners have gone back to just gaming with their single GPU.
