Looks loverly,
....always thought it was a con going from the old 4;3 aspect ration to widescreen
Does look good. Shame the panel seems to be a bit all over the place in terms of uniformity for brightness and colour.
Side note.... are those Corsair wave panels any good?
400 quid is a very solid price, 600 for a 60hz 4K panel is too much. Although people needing a productivity focused display will always pay a bit more if it means improving work.
I paid £700 for my dell 32" 4K panel, and that's their cheap one. High quality panels cost money - £600 for this is just fine for the market it's targeted at. My main issue is the design means no VESA so it can't be mounted on an arm so having multiple takes up a lot of desk, here's hoping somebody else picks up the panel too.
EDIT: eeek, Dell U3219Q is now £850, guess I got a good deal at the time.
As someone with less than perfect eyesight, such a high resolution, at this size, is pointless. Makes more sense to pay less for a lower res screen, that I can use without scaling. However, I certainly support the move to a taller aspect ration than 16x9.
"Widescreen movies will play with black borders above and below"
How many people watch movies on a small PC monitor when they likely have a 65in or so in multiple rooms by now? I have a 55in in my bedroom even...LOL. Why would I watch on a 32in even? Nobody I know watches movies on PC's and NEVER have. They might RIP them there, or stream them from there (plex etc), etc, but they are NOT WATCHING them there on small screens stuck in a PC chair that usually isn't as comfortable as say, a couch, bed, recliner, etc etc...WITH your friends/family.
Bring back 16:10 or heck, ok 4:3. Movies on PC are useless to me and anyone I know. They only went wide because it is cheaper to make them. WE DID NOT WANT THEM AND DID NOT ASK FOR WIDE. If I was using spreadsheets all day ok, but converting the whole market as if we all live on a spreadsheet all day RATHER than reality, which is many of us READ tons on the web and SCROLL down all day because of this WIDE crap, is stupid.
I have been whinging for years in these comments about the issues with monitors for computers that have a screen ratio set for watching films. TV's are for watching films.
3:2 is a step in the right direction, but I still want to go back to 4:3. I'm typing this on a 3:2 touch screen Surface Pro and I'd still like more vertical space. Will I buy one? No, too much invested in 2 32" and one 24" monitors with 1440 and 1600 vertical resolutions. Maybe if my lottery numbers come up 3 of them would be nice.
EDIT. Nobodyspecial has it exactly right. Wide screen was pushed on us because it was cheaper and most of the buying public quite frankly are ignorant of the technicalities. They got carried along on the change fron CRT's to wide flat screens as seen in TV's.

Are you old?
My kids watch things on all sorts of devices. Phones, PCs (usually laptops though), tablets... doesn't matter. Big TV viewing is a social thing mostly for my son watching football with friends, otherwise a phone in your hand fills as much of your vision as a huge TV on the far living room wall.
I'm more old-school, but even I will watch a film using the Oculus Quest 2 these days. I haven't had a TV in the bedroom for years.
Quick look at the Huawei website shows 200 cashback and a free wi-fi router at the moment... At £400 this is a bargain
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
"The visual field of the human eye spans approximately 120 degrees of arc. However, most of that arc is peripheral vision."
We evolved scanning the horizon for prey and predators, thats why it took effort to look at the stars.
When it comes to monitors, horizontal property is much more important than vertical. Given enough vertical is provided, excess should definitely go horizontal.
