A week or so ago the boss got on the blower, breathing heavily. Never a good sign. "Black pearls, Rys, black pearls are coming. Be prepared. 4 chips. SLI. Be prepared". Then he hung up, slightly asthmatic wheezing lost to the wind, my thoughts all agog.

Had he just been watching Pirates of the Caribbean again, drunk, or was something else afoot?

Nice review but those graphs are dreadful. What's wrong with a full legend? Also the method of putting decimal values on the axis is irritating and it's hard to understand the value the bar represents.

but we successfully ran the Black Pearl test system, complete with AMD Athlon FX-62 and 2GiB of system memory, from a very high quality 420W Tagan supply, with no stability issues.

Either thats a typo or I'm buying one of those PSU's. Good reveiw though.

No typo, it does actually run fine. But in reality, especially if you run a couple more HDDs or what have you, you want something with a touch more juice to give, just in case.

Guru3d just tested a conroe extreme system, with 2gb ram and quad SLI, and the power drawn never went over 420 watts..

I guess the lower clocks really make a difference in power consumption. I think even a mild amount of overclocking or another drive or two and it wouldn't cope.

I'm about to buy a 580w tagan, starting to look like a very good buy now I see the Guru3D review peaked at 419.7 Looks like 420 was right on the money.
