    Help with Nokia 6630

    Hi,
the other day my nokia 6630 just stopped working. it wont turn on at all and shows no signs of life even with the mains charger plugged in. i've tried taking the battery out for a few mins and then putting back in but no joy.
its not been dropped or exposed to moisture whilst i've had it. it is however 2nd hand i.e.bought from ebay.
    anybody any ideas?
    thanks,
    pat

    Hard to say.

One thing that you could check would be the battery & charger. If either is faulty the phone won't work. That phone uses a Nokia BL-5C battery, that is used in a lot of other Nokias, so if you can borrow a known good battery from a friend, you can check if that is the problem.

Off the top of my head the battery is used in similar sized smartphones: 7610, 6630, 6680, N70, and a lot of basic phones like 1100, 1101, 1112 etc, I think it is also use in many midrange phones. That should mean that if you ask a friend with a Nokia phone there is about a 50/50 chance the battery will fit.

If it is not the battery, Then I doubt anyone can diagnose the problem remotely. You could try taking the phone to a shop, or one of those market traders who are able to repair phones, but realistically your phone is probably dead. Perhaps this is the excuse you need to upgrade to an N95? : )

    I work for Nokia BTW.

    Thanks for the reply
If I sent it back to nokia, any idea of the cost of repair?
i.e. the least it might cost and the most?
    Cheers,
    Pat

No Idea I am afraid, I don't work in that area.

If it is out of warranty, then a non warranty repair will probably not be cost effective. All I can suggest is that you call them and ask. I don't have any sort of inside track at getting that sort of information.

As I said before, I think your best bet would be to take it to a market trader or back street mobile phone shop, as they often have the skills to make simple repairs quite cheaply. If they can't fix it, then a replacement phone will probably be cheaper than an official repair.
