    iPhone help...

So a friend of mine has given me an original iPhone (O2 never asked for it back), and I've stuck a PAYG sim in to have a play with it before I put it on a simplicity tariff.

Thing is, it starts up and syncs but then says that it is waiting for activation and displays no service at the top.

Any idea what's going on there? Will a PAYG card not work straight out the box? What am i missing?

    Cheers!

    Re: iPhone help...

You will probably need to unlock it using software that can be found on the internet.

First when your friend gave you it did it work?
Is it an O2 PAYG sim? if not unless the iphone is unlocked it's not going to work.
It might be worth going into an O2 store and ask them (there might be a specific PAYG sim for it).
Those upgrading to the 3g iphone can keep there old 2g version (O2 won't want it back), I'm under the impression that an o2 store would give/sell you PAYG sim to use in the old 2g iphone.

iphones are easy to unlock and can be made to work for you without activation and on any network (except 3) if you have a first gen iphone.

google the word pwnage or quickpwn and you will find the software you need for FREE

    Re: iPhone help...

Go into an O2 store and let them know you have been given an old 2G iPhone. You can get a hand me down sim card for that phone.
