I think the hero is only 802.11b and g, not n.

Have you turned on the B/G compatability mode on the Netgear?

I had a problem with my Nintendo DS (which is B) on my Edimax N AP. I don't know if it would be corrected with a firmware update on the AP or not. I just disabled N temporarily.

So it might be an idea to try just B or G to see what happens.

I have a WNR2000 router and had the same problem. For me the problem seemed to be the security setting, which was WPA+WPA2. Changed it to WPA2 only and problem solved. Hope this works for you.

i had to set my router to mixed mode and WPA+WPA2 to get it working (just a crappy old HP PDA and 8 year old laptop though.)
