    T Mobile. HTC HD2?

    Hey guys, at the end of a excellent night out, I check my pockets and turns out I lost my phone. Gave Orange a call and they bar'd my sim and said they would send me a new one and a free "basic" phone. Pretty decent of them since I am only on PaYG but I have been with them for years.

    So I need a new one. I've had my eye on the iPhone for a while but my original plan was to keep my current phone until the next iPhone revision was out in June. The SE K810i, that i've had for over two and a half years was actually falling to bits so losing the phone was no big loss, but just meant I lost some photos I had on it that I hadn't saved to my computer yet Now it looks like now I need to get a replacement sooner rather than later.

    I've been looking around today seeing whats out. My first choice was going to be the Nexus One but after checking out prices however turns out it is going to cost £430 just for the phone. So it is going to have to be a no.

    After spending a few minutes browsing engadget, the best phone at the moment excluding NE and iPhone is the HD2. http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/htc-hd2-review/ Seems to be the best WinMo device ever made.

    Looking around for it seems that T-Mobile has the best deal imo.

    http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobil...4m/allowances/

    £241 for the phone. £10 a month for 24 months with 100 minutes, free internet and unlimited texts. I can also get £20 back from Qudico.

    In total works out to be around £461 over 2 years. Seems a pretty damn good deal to me. Is there something i'm missing?

    Re: T Mobile. HTC HD2?

    If you are missing anything I've made the same mistake as I've just gone for that same contract and the only difference is that I went for the free national calls booster instead of the unlimited texts (100 is more than enough for me)

    Seems a very good deal for me and the phone is very fast although I'm still getting used to the size as I went from a HTC Diamond.

    Good to know. The price just didn't seem right considering all the other operators wanted at least £30 per month for 24 months just to get the phone free.

    I made my order a few moments ago. Can't wait to get it. I checked my quidco a few moments ago, for some reason it is tracking £40. Doesn't make sense. If it goes through then it will actually only cost me a total of £441 over 2 years with a decent contract, which works out to be cheaper than buying the phone sim free on sites like play.com

    Anyone know how easy it is to get the phone unlocked? I read somewhere that you can phone T Mobile after something like 40 or 90 days and they unlock it for free.

    Or you can unlock it using HardSPL from XDA-Devs. That will allow you to install custom ROMs or the standard non-tmobile ROM if you wanted.

    That doesn't remove the operator lock though. Already put Duttys ROM on my HD2

    Are T-Mobile handsets operator locked then?

    I used HardSPL on my TyTN II and was able to use different SIMs.

    Definitely. Just tried my orange SIM and that wouldn't work without putting in an operator unlock code.

    Would have been nice if it had worked though

    Re: T Mobile. HTC HD2?

    Thanks for your answers guy. Im in no rush to get it sim unlocked. Only need it to be unlocked by summer, so I have plenty of time. Beelzebub is there anything wrong with the installed t-mobile rom? Just wondering if I should install HSPL and the latest stock rom before I do start doing anything e.g. add contacts, etc.

    Getting my HD2 tonight, can't wait

    You might get an SMS sent issue with the current stock ROM...which im still on, but have now turned delivery reports on and therefore know if it fails to send (even though its in the sent folder)

    Quite possibly the best phone I have ever had

    Infinite

    I used HARD SPL to upgrade my O2 HD2 from 1.43 to 1.48 and noticed a much better signal strength and HSDPA connection, especially inside. I upgraded again to 1.66 and didn't notice much difference really.

    So if you get a phone with 1.43 definitely upgrade, if you have 1.48 or higher and are worried about flashing the phone you don't really need to upgrade, just apply the SMA fixes via the cab updates through the XDA-Dev site or via HTC support updates.

    Regards

    Couldn't tell you as I installed HSPL and put on Dutty's ROM the day after I got it as there seemed to be a lot of people with problems running the installed T-mobile ROM

    Haven't had any problems with that ROM and so far the phone has been superb.

    Watch out for your 1st bill if you're going for that £10/month contract like I did. My 1st bill showed that they charged VAT on the £241 phone cost. Had to ring them up and get the bill adjusted.

    Re: T Mobile. HTC HD2?

    Hi guys, just got my HD2, it is awesome. The screen is a lot bigger than everything i've ever seen on a phone. Just been playing around with, it feels so nice to use. The T-Mobile splash screen was annoying me so i decided i might as well install HSPL and 1.66 before do anything else.

    Installation went smoothly but now I don't know how to set up internet. Help anyone?

    Re: T Mobile. HTC HD2?

    A little update. Managed to figure out how to set a data connection. It was pretty simple. Just select country and service provider. Now i'm getting letters depending on connection type. Anyone know what they mean. It is like "G", "H", "3G". 3G being the fastest, anyone know what the other two mean?

    I'm loving the facebook intergration into contacts, saves me from setting people pictures manually. It just uses their facebook profile picture

    Something that is annoying me is the battery life. Utter fail. I managed to just squeeze almost a full day out of it, which is pretty unacceptable imo.

    Other than that. This phone is frickin awesome.

    Here they are in order of speed, from slowest to fastest.

    G= GPRS
    E = Edge
    3G = 3rd Generation
    H = HSDPA
    I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
