    Motorola Milestone Opinions

    Hey guys,

I've been thinking of getting a new phone for a little while and have always quite fancied the hardware keybooard of the Motorola Milestone. It's going free on a £20 a month contract with "unlimited" internet and texts here from Carphone Warehouse, which seems a bit of a bargain. I don't use my mobile enough to warrant the £30-40 a month slightly newer phones cost.

Does anyone here have a Milestone, and have any opinions or comments about it? I've read reviews, but it's always good to find out what people think when they've been living with it for a few months. I know it's only Android 2.0 for a while, but that will still be miles ahead of the clunky LG OS I've got at the moment.

    Any thoughts, let me know!

    Re: Motorola Milestone Opinions

I know it's a bit old, but the Milestone 2 will be really expensive for ages... It's out in the US and it doesn't sound like all that much has changed. The D-pad is gone and there's a faster chip, but not a wealth of new features for probably £15-20 extra a month. Do you know if the Milestone 2 will be out soon? I don't know if they'll be sold simultaneously, the Milestone 1 isn't all that well promoted as it is, and is already off the Orange website.

If you're on a budget, check out http://threestore.three.co.uk/refurb.aspx

I got a refurbed HTC Desire for £25 a month, no money down on the handset. Sure it's a 2 year contract but the phone should last me that long anyway.

    Re: Motorola Milestone Opinions

If you are after a hardware keyboard on that budget I think that you'll be very happy. The original Milestone or "Droid" is due to be upgraded to 2.2 and is one of the few Google phones that feature a stock android experience and are ripe for developers or those interested in rooting their phone. The hardware is still good enough for most current Android apps and the PowerVR gpu means gaming is better than on other phones with the sub 1ghz offerings from the Desire and Galaxy S.

All round it's a solidly built nice phone and I very nearly went for it myself, but decided I was prepared to give a touch keyboard a go as a trade off for the slimmer profile and the Sense UI which I actually think is very good!

    Re: Motorola Milestone Opinions

Thanks for the feedback guys! The reconditioned phones look a good idea, but being on Orange is a bit of a dealbreaker for me. I can get away with not too many minutes in a package by using Magic Numbers as I tend to call only a few other Orange mobiles for a long time.

The Milestone seems to fit what I want - it's house moving time at uni, so I don't want to be spending loads with all the costs associated with that. If no one knows of any major problems it has I think I might get one. I know it's not quite as fast as others but it looks responsive on Youtube and whatnot, much better than my current phone. Incidentally, people on there are claiming to be able to overclock it to up to 1.3GHz, though what that does to heat/battery/reliability is anyone's guess. I considered waiting for Windows Phone 7, but I might just see how that all turns out...

    Re: Motorola Milestone Opinions

HTC DEsire Z due soon, and with the Milestone 2 release date around the same time, I can see HTC making the desire Z competitive.
