where to buy a sim free or orange phone without top up

just been having a look for a new mobile for the mrs, all i want it orange or sim free and not be forced into buying a £10 top up as i want to stick her old sim card in it..

or is it simple enough to transfer the number to the new sim with it being PAYG?

Re: where to buy a sim free or orange phone wihtout top up

After trawling through many threads about the orange sanfrancisco, I think you can credit the topup to her old sim. There were also people getting a rebate on the sanfran if they had a current orange simcard.

Re: where to buy a sim free or orange phone without top up

I got a phone a few months back from the Car Phone Warehouse, and they did not insist that I top up because I was eligible for an upgrade on my old Vodafone contract.

The thing is, the old contract was a SIM only PAYG deal that I was about to cancel, and the new phone was a SIM free unlocked model that I connected to O2. So basically CPW collected a subsidy from Vodafone, so that they could take a costumer away to another network.

After that experience, I would always recommend people CPW because they sell SIM free phones. I could have got the same phone from O2 for the same price, but it would have been locked.

The phone was a cheap Nokia (2730), The situation might be different with more expensive models, or models that are exclusive to one network.
