    Busted 3gs

My old mans just got a new phone so has given his old iPhone to my mum, she's just plugged it into her PC where iTunes told her there was an update available so she said yes, turns out my old man had it "unlocked" by a local phone shop, looks like they jailbroke it to unlock it instead of just removing the carrier lock so the iTunes update has now bricked the phone with some 1015 error..

There a way to un jb the phone and then just get the carrier lock removed so it can be upgraded via the official route etc, thought it was legal these days to remove carrier locks etc, dad was on o2 whereas mum is on 3...

    Re: Busted 3gs

i googled "flash a bricked iphone"

came back with a lot of hits for your problem and quite an easy way out if you have modded phones in the past.

seems u put it in DFU mode and downgrade it.

i dont own apple products so no point me guessing at links, have a look and see what your happy to do.

Updating a jail broken phone won't brick it, just remove the jb (and therefore unlock) as mentioned there should be loads of restore guides, whether you can jb/unlock again depends on what it just got updated to. Restore via iTunes (as you have the latest fw anyway) and see where you stand then

Well cant find any posts that are the same as mine, nor has anyone even replied to the posts I've made, guessing its either because its old hardware or the apple snob thing coming out, guess after year's of using a place like this that I've come to expect answers or at least a finger in the right direction.

    look up DFU mode.

Put it into that, then it will say connect to iTunes do that and update it.

Alternatively, iOS5 bricked my phone when i had it jailbroken, i could only get into dfu mode, took it to an apple shop told them the issues and he fixed it for me in around 10 mins...just reupdated it using their macs

Don't tell them you jailbroke it. Just say you tried to update to ios 5 and it failed!

iOS 5 is available for the 3GS not for the 3G though.
