In the hunt for an Android tablet

    Hi there!

I'm currently in the hunt for an Android Honeycomb 3.1/3.2 tablet. and i'm choosing between Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (which has the Mali 400MP GPU) and the Sony Tablet S (with its own Geforce by Nvidia Tegra 2.) both has a dual core processor although Samsung has the new Exynos 1.2GHz processor.

Based on the initial tech specs i've seen online the Samsung has a supposedly mind-altering 20 hours battery life while Sony has only 6 hours max. advertised.

But, does a processor speed or the graphics card always determines a device's overall performance, responsiveness & battery life? ( i'll be mainly surfing the net, watch Youtube videos, facebook, twitter, viewing .pdf or .doc files, odd photos & uploading them, listening to music, playing games, using DLNA to watch movies to my TV)

I'm trying to aim for anything below 10" screen size, with an SD/microSD card slot, dual speakers and £400 max budget.

    Thank you.

Re: In the hunt for an Android tablet

The Sony battery life does seem rather short!

There's a couple of other points to bear in mind with the S tablet, too. Firstly if you have a Sony TV set it can be hooked up and used with that (as a remote)... also it's shape is differently designed to most tablets.

It's a wedge kinda shape (plus light weight), as this review points out, makes it easier to hold, the reviewer says he "found that after a few minutes - when an iPad needs two hands - the S was still going strong in our mitts".

Display is pretty slick and responsive by all accounts. I might lean to the Sony over the Galaxy Tab, but it's a close call.

And I think you might do well to consider the Asus Transformer Prime - that has got some pretty rave reviews. Yes it's a full size tablet and £100 over budget, but that comes with a keyboard dock too, and I'd be tempted to push for a quad-core processor and the responsiveness that will bring.

Just thought I'd mention it anyway! Hope that helps...

PS Forgot to mention about the Prime, initial complaints were about software and glitches, which Asus has apparently patched in the latter case - though ICS is still to come, hopefully next month as an upgrade.
