    Angry Cancelling Vodafone contract

    So, my Mom's 1 year Vodafone contract ends tomorrow.
    She called today to cancel as her contract ends and was told that she needs to give Vodafone 30 days notice.

    Now, shouldn't I be able to tell them to
    - give me damn PAC code
    - change my contract to a PAYG SIM
    as she is no longer in contract.

    I will also be asking her to cancel the Direct Debit on her bank's side.

    What's everyone's thoughts on this? Will I land in problems with Debt-busters?

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    30days notice is pretty standard, check the contract she signed up to as it'll be in there.

    You can still get your PAC but have to pay the notice period up, cancelling the DD probably isn't worth it in the long run as you'll eventually have to pay it.

    Tl:dr - read the contract

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    This is what is in the email I got a year ago :

    11.
    Ending this agreement
    a.
    Either you or we may end this agreement by giving the other 30 days’ notice in writing. Your notice must include your mobile number and your signature or appropriate security details. You must pay the charges during the notice period.
    b.
    You may end this agreement by writing to us if:
    we don’t do something fundamental that we should have done under this agreement (for example, if there is a complete failure of the network for seven days in a row due to something we have done), within seven days of you asking us in writing;
    we tell you that there will be an increase in the line rental charge by more than the increase in the retail price index (worked out as a percentage) since the last line rental increase and you write to us before the increase applies;
    we increase your charges in the UK which has the effect of increasing your total charges (based on your usage in the previous month) by more than 10% and you write to us before the increase applies; or
    we change this agreement to your significant disadvantage including changing or withdrawing services (we will tell you if this is the case) and you write to us within one month of us telling you about the change. This does not apply if the change or withdrawal relates to services which you can cancel without us ending this agreement.
    c.
    We may end this agreement at any time by writing to you if:
    you do anything (or allow anything to be done) which we think may damage or affect the operation of the network;
    within seven days of us asking you in writing, you do not do something fundamental that you have to do under this agreement (for example, pay the charges when they are due); or
    we are permanently unable to provide the services to you.
    d.
    When this agreement comes to an end:
    we will disconnect your mobile equipment from our network (you may keep the mobile equipment, but may have to make a payment as described below);
    you will have to pay immediately all charges you owe on the date we disconnect your mobile equipment from the network (including any charges for extra subscription services such as content services); and
    you must still pay all the line rental charges until the end of the minimum period. This applies when this ends in clause 11, except if:
    - we ended this agreement under clause 11a; or
    - you ended this agreement under clause 11b; or
    - we ended this agreement because we were permanently unable to provide the services to you.
    In these three situations you do not have to pay all line rental charges until the end of the minimum period. However, you may have to make a payment for your mobile equipment. We will let you know in your order form or welcome letter or welcome email if you have to make this kind of payment for your mobile equipment and will tell you the original value on which that payment is based. The payment will be 1/24 of the original value of the mobile equipment, less any initial payment you make towards it, multiplied by the number of months left until the end of your minimum period. You will make this payment to us as soon as we ask after the agreement comes to an end.

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    When I moved I just got my PAC and gave it to GiffGaff.

    Voda could have been funny over the 30 days thing, but they didn't bother with me. This wasn't even a year ago so worth a try knowing that it might not work?

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    Sometimes that happens yeah, take the PAC and port ASAP, then you might only pay a small amount, been a while since I was I to all that though.

    It's in the contract though as you posted so I'd not recommend cancelling te DD

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    Pretty standard thing tbh. If you were intending to leave after the 12 months, you want to give the 30 days notice in month 11, so that when month 12 swings around you can leave. But yeah hindsight and all.

    Give them a call and see what they say. I'd recommend not touching the DD or think about cancelling it. It won't be pretty.

    Yeah standard with vodafone thirty day written cancellation. If you cancel dd and not pay you could face further charges.

    Thanks all. Will ask her to call them tomorrow repeatedly and ask for a PAC until they give it to her.

    companies should send out letter informing about the end of the current contract , or a change to a rolling contract.

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    Though do check once the contract has been cancelled and the final bill paid that the Direct Debit has been stopped. It's amazing how many companies just leave them active which means they can whip money from you bank account as and when then you have to go through the hassle of getting it back.

    At the end of the contractual period it *is* a rolling contract - 30 days notice. As for informing people that they're approaching the end of their contract surely that's against their interests as a business?

    That is usually explained in the terms and conditions when you sign up to the contract in the first place.

    Re: Cancelling Vodafone contract

    I just went through this with t-mobile. Called up to ask for the PAC code and was told I would be stuck with them for another month due to not giving 30 days notice. I was not happy at all, especially as I had been with them fro 6 years on a £30+ contract throughout. I got the pac code off them having accepted I was stuck for a further 30 days but forgot to use the pac code. I requested a new pac code 4-5 days before the contract ended but it took them almost a week to generate it & move me onto a pay & go sim card so I could get off the contract. Due to my contract rolling onto this next month they have been charged me for the *additional* month on top for ''terminating my contract early''. I am utterly furious with them.

    Really tainted my view of t-mobile, terrible customer service.
