Question Half price line rental offers on 3

seen a few of these about on the net and just wondered if anyone here has 'em?

You have to pay the full months line rental then send them yer 6th and 12th bill and they will refund you the amount in cash to you. Bit like this:

    http://www.just3g.co.uk/images/halfpriceguide.gif

Thinking of either getting the sony z1010 or the nec e228, but not sure yet.

Any advice on this half price line rental thing and 3 handsets would be appreciated,

    thanks!

they have been around for ages but they still aint worth it due to 3 being such a poor network and the handsets not really being up to scratch. what good is are750mins a month if you only have a signal for 200 of them? useless

The half price rental thing has been pretty standard for a couple of months now. Most places are doing it. The only issue, as you say, is that it's by redemption. If that doesnt cause any issues (and tbh I cant understand why it would) then it's a good deal.

I know the Sony is supposedly released, but I havent seen one yet. Do they have any in stock?

The handsets are rather large and under-featured (apart from video calls ).

Give it 6-12 months and you should see some much nicer, smaller and fully-featured phones coming out.

Yeah, the Nokia 6630 looks good from the description on Nokia's website. Or there's the Motorola A1000. A bit of an improvement over the current A925, wouldn't you say?

You can expect to collect your Just3G.co.uk cashback through the County Court

Be careful! Web forums are littered with Just3g.co.uk customers who were ripped off over their cashbacks. I was one of many - my County Court Judgment against Just3G.co.uk is here:

three are currently in the process of taking me to court over me cancelling my contract. They provided me with 4 faulty hansets and i just had enough. Avoid three like the plague

In the UK its improved loads. Although I use a symbian app to force the phone onto the 2g (o2) network purely for battery power consumption reasons, I'm happy to use either now. Rarely drops out, good coverage.

You should win that based on the Sales of goods act.

Yeah but if you are using the 2G network you are using o2's network iirc.

Only the 3G part belongs to 3 i believe.

Yup, but the contents on three blows so much, targetted for chavs and people with far too much time on their hands.

Some places have proved to be a problem getting cashback, but some are fine.
e2save proved to be helpful when claiming cashback (I'm on a £4.99/month contract effectively through their cashback offer with Three) - I didn't claim the 6 month cashback within the stated time frame because postal problems meant I didn't get the bills from Three. I requested replacement copies of the bills from Three (who initially wanted to charge for a reissue, but waived the fee when told that I was entitled to a bill and hadn't received one yet), then forwarded them to e2save with a letter explaining why the claim was late, and they sent the cheque without any fuss, so I'd be happy using them again with a cashback offer.
You do need to have a way to make sure you remember to claim at the appropriate points, though, which is the main issue (I wonder what percentage don't remember to claim).

I'd agree with the issue on Three's content - I wouldn't care if their content was unimpressive if you could get external content, but you're locked into their walled garden, which is the big issue (no email from your choice of provider, no BBC website, no eBay, no Google, Wikipedia, etc). Reception hasn't been a problem for me, being based in London, though.

So, if you're organised, then cashback offers are fine. Three's got good offers on the handsets and good tariffs for voice calls. If you can live with the limited downloadable content, etc, then have a look at e2save or dialaphone or chatterbox or scancom - they all tend to have reasonable contract offers.

i think what he ment was the 3g network is owned by 3, not the technology, its not a common network for all the 3g companys, in the same way the gsm network isn't common, however the tech is.

Although i was wondering if they use the same 3g networks as O2, but from the coverage maps it doesn't look like it .
