    Unlock iPhone 5, pass code?

This will sound dodgy I imagine, but hopefully my reputation will suffice.

My girlfriends father gave her a new iPhone 5, just phone and Vodafone sim card. Now he is a top top London surveyor so this will have been an uber rich colleague not wanting the phone, and just giving it away.

He was given it before Christmas, and forgot about it (see comment above ) and left it In his desk draw. Now 4 months later he has found it and given it to my girlfriend to use as he was going to bin it(!).

Now, when we turn the phone on it asks us for a pass code. I have no idea if it is networked locked, or how to find it. Currently I can't get around this "passcode". I have tried resetting it via iTunes but it is still asking me for a pass code.

How do I bypass this passcode and make it usable for my girlfriend?

I know it sounds suspicious, but it is a matter of people with more money then memory rather then a street corner mugging and trying to break into the phone.

... And yes, I am in the sin bin for getting exasperated with my girlfriend for not finding out how/when/who gave her dad a £600 phone with a shrug of the shoulders. "A colleague just gave it to him" "no he can't remember who" ARGHH.

If you have a nice underground no-signal location, or a Faraday cage, you could try the following.

No signal ensures you don't (illegally) place an emergency call.

Edit: Sorry, just remembered it doesn't actually remove the code, just exposes some data.

hmm, vodaphone aren't at all interested in helping. Not knowing who/where the phone came from just rings all ''illegal'' bills it seems and that want details of the account holder before they do anything.

i cant even tell if it is network locked, tried a different sim card from vodaphone and it stills says 'PASS CODE' and one from o2 is the same.

Restore from someone elses' backup, unlock with their code then wipe again and setup as new? Try with an encrypted backup as well as unencrypted one?

Force into DFU & restore? (not sure if that's what you've tried already)

Re: Unlock iPhone 5, pass code?

Can Apple's Genius bar help? ie walk into Apple shop, and ask them to unlock it.

Because every Apple iPhone is serial numbers, they'll soon notify the database that you own it now, register it to your and your address and therefore if (I know it's not) it ws nicked they could find you/it.

When Sair was given a smashed up iPhone4 from her bother in law, we rang Apple for help and they registered it to us, and sent us to our local Genius Bar and we gave them the smashed one, gave them £129.95 and they gave us a new one. Sorted. And we had no proof of ownership/purchase etc.
