Question Bluetooth, games and Nokia 6230

    Hello,

I have some Java games on my PC that I would like to try to upload to my Nokia 6230. The problem is that it appears I have to use Nokia’s awful program to upload them into the games section so I can actually play them. So how do I do it? I have a Bluetooth USB dongle and a USB MMC card adapter for my PC. I can’t seem to find a Bluetooth option in the Nokia program though.

    Thank-you.

I had some trouble getting the nokia software to work with my bluetooth dongle, but after 2 hours of messing around with my dongle, i managed to get it to work.

The only games I managed to send to my phone, were the ones on the CD that I got with the phone.

Well it’s good to know it is possible, but can you remember any of what you did? When I go to the connection manager it only lists serial and infra red. I cannot see how to add a new connection type, nor find anything related to Bluetooth.

Iirc bluetooth acts like a virtual serial port. I had a bugger of a time getting it to connect with my 7650 when i had it too.

I remember that I had to mess about with my Bluetooth settings, I had to make it Port 4, an then i would go to the Nokia software and choose Port 4 under the bluetooth settings, then it would list my phone on the nokia settings.

It took me ages to get it to work though.

Have you tried downloading the latest version of PC Suite (6.4) from Nokia's website? At least they've finally integrated the USB drivers into it.

I've also had problems with bluetooth. To establish the connection I usually have to let the software find the phone via the sync settings first. It's a right pain in the arse.

OK, thanks for the information. I downloaded the latest version of the suite but it still does not find my phone. It now lists Infrared, Serial and USB. USB cannot be configured and Serial only lists COM1 and COM2. I feel I maybe need another piece of software to get the Bluetooth going? I’ve done a screen shot of my device manager below in case that helps. Can I ask what other pieces of Bluetooth software poeple use?

I just use the software supplies with my Dynamode bluetooth dongle, it gets the job done.

the Nokia PC Suite will do it - there is a bit that says Connection manager or something - it should have bluetooth on it - but you dont need it anyway - if you open the Application installer under one of the menus there is something like choose phone - you should be able to get it from that list. If it doesnt there is something up with your windows XP / bluetooth / ir comms.

To fix the IR go into the Infra Red drivers and go to properties there is a bit that says Sigmatel something or other chnage it to the one below the default.

sorry i dont have the specifics but i am on a machine without hardware software at hand.

I’m using Windows 2000. I have the software that came with my dongle installed. But it is a whole application in itself, which connects, uploads and downloads from my phone fine. However, I need to use the Nokia software to actually install applications.

The Nokia software does not list Bluetooth as an option. I don’t have an infrared port on my computer. I need some sort of Windows 2000 Bluetooth drivers maybe?

Well in the end I installed SP2 on Windows XP and installed the Nokia PC Suite, it detected my Bluetooth dongle and I managed to install some games. I think my problem in Windows 2000 relates to using the XTND Connect Bluetooth software that comes with the dongle, but I am not sure.
