    Best £120 tablet?

People think I know something about tablets :/

What's the best tablet available on the 120 range? Ideally android and definitely not 8 RT. Links would help.

    Thx

Hudl 2? Can get it for less than that with club card vouchers etc.

    Re: Best £120 tablet?

What's the purpose of the tablet? They're a bit horses for courses.

e.g.: gaming? http://www.ebuyer.com/670780-wikipad...ablet-pc-wp005 (also a good general purpose 7" tablet)
reading newspapers/magazines/comics? http://www.ebuyer.com/584234-hannspr...-pc-sn14t71bee (way out of price range, but interesting piece of kit)
    Full Windows 8.1 computer? http://www.ebuyer.com/664278-linx-8-...ablet-pc-linx8

tbh, if they just "want a tablet" they may as well go for the cheapest Android tablet they can find - they're all Cortex A9 or better nowadays, have capacitative touch screens, and the software is much of a muchness.

    Re: Best £120 tablet?

I should add that my tablet experience is limited to iPads and the Hudl 2. I wanted a cheap device I could give the kids, but which I could also do basic web and email, and consume media on. Seems to have fit the bill, with the exception of a few UI things I don't like. I think that's down to the differences between iOS and Android though.

    Re: Best £120 tablet?

Its for a little boy. I think the parents have left it a little late tbh.

We have £16 doubled in vouchers. The problem is he lives in Paris; a little hard to pop into tesco. The hudl2 and nexus 2013 were my first suggestions. They have discon inued the 2013 and the refurbs have dried up a bit. A tetra note was another option.

That first linklooks mad Jim. Its a tetra 3 so should be on par with a nexus 2012. There is definitely less chance of him breaking it with android; not sure why I think that but the windows tablet with a mouse and keyboard may allow for a proper gaming education.

Edit: my education has improved over the last year as I know what to expect from crappy tablets. I'm an apple pariah. No idea why but I've always had an aversion. Maybe because they have been trendy for a while.

A couple of people on hexus have picked up one of those cheap Windows tablets, their thoughts can be read here: http://forums.hexus.net/retail-thera...ml#post3421018 - the 8" I linked to is hardware identical to the 7" version except for the physical size of the screen. I reckon that £100 for a full Windows computer is a bit of a steal, personally....

    Re: Best £120 tablet?

I currently have Hudl, original Nexus 7 (well wife has it), and the Linx7 windows tablet. My go to device is the Linx7, in metro mode its brilliant, metro IE is very very good, and its a device that just works. Have been surprised at how good the apps have been so far, but a limited selection compared to Android, also no onboard GPS. You can actually do stuff with this thing!! Complex things like printing without having turn your PC on. For me its great, but the massive Android store would make me think twice before recommending it to somebody else. Very odd device, Win8.1 on a tablet is the only tablet OS that I can say will allow laptops to be replaced by tablets. Plug it into a TV and use a wireless mini keyboard and you can turn it into an interesting media player as well. Probably going to get another windows tablet next year to use instead of a laptop, work are looking at getting some for instrumentation control.

The linx 8 is a nice piece of kit. Had a look in Saintsbury's although I couldn't lift it out of its cradle to gage the feel. I would be concerned about 1gig ram. There is an offer posted in hukd from very to get one for £69, sign up for the credit scheme and add the code 4KMY4 for £30 discount. Delivery is £4 or free with collect+.

Would have got one for a 'family' member if I could!

Love my Nexus 7 2013. It's still my go to device over the iPad 4th Gen, iPad Air 2, TF101 and multiple phones/laptops that are kicking about the house - its even better now with the lollipop update

Waitrose were selling them for £99 the other week but I have a feeling that was a black friday deal.

    Linx 7 or 8 or 10

Full fledged windows 8 on touch screen is actually very good

Dont worry about 1Gig RAM as Windows 8 is very efficient and I never felt it was lagging or low on memory while doing normal tasks like Watching HD youtube, multiple browser windows, etc..

    Wow my 20th post!

    Re: Best £120 tablet?

Another vote for the Linx tablets here if build quality isn't really a concern. Largely identical to a Surface, minus the digitiser.

The only issue when setting up a Linx 10 at work was the screen orientation was borked during set up, meaning the display was always flipped. I think it's a driver thing.
