Hudl2 replacement ideas for three year old.

    Hello,

My son's Hudl2 has bitten the dust and I am looking after a suitable replacement.

He has tried using my Asus TF300T but it doesn't really suit him - the screen is a bit big and the bezel is a bit thin and he cannot hold it without touching the screen and pausing the video.

All it gets used for is Youtube, basic games from the play store and watching back ripped DVDs.

Any suggestions for a decent replacement please?

A decent battery life would be a bit of a bonus - the HUDL2 was pretty impressive but my TF300T, by comparison, is rather poor.

    Thanks.

I also had a HUDL2 but gave it up when the battery started to go and got an nVidia Shield Tablet K1, it's a really good tablet but unfortunately now is as rare as rocking horse poo. If I had to replace today I really have no idea what I would go for. Do Asus have a ZenPad S out at the moment?

Only thing I can think of is a Kindle Fire tablet. They're cheap, but the screen isn't as good as the Hudl, and you're confined to the Amazon infrastructure, but it'll probably do most of what you want it to.

Re: Hudl2 replacement ideas for three year old.

Kindle Fire tablets can be fairly easily "updated" to add the Google eco-system. Kids have 3 of them, and they had 3 before that until they broke them. I just buy a few whenever Amazon have their cheap sales on.

As for "updating" them - Google is your friend - but it basically entails enabling developer tools and installing some APKs over USB.

Thank you both - Kindle Fire looks perfect.

Having looked at the various models, do you think the HD8 is the best one to go for? Seems to have a better battery life.

    Kindle Fire Kids' Edition.

Costs 2x normal price, but comes with a rubber case, a 2 year accidental damage replacement policy, and a 1 year sub to Prime for Kids (full version games, TV shows, kindle books - no ads or in-app purchases).

What DirectHex said, but the 8" one. It's got a higher-res screen than the 7" one. I think we got one for about £100 in the last raft of sales.

That lovely bouncy case doesn't stop the screen getting covered with sticky fingerprints though...

Before you do order just check the amount of ram it it has. My sons Kindle slows down massively sometimes and pretty sure it's due to the paltry amount of ram it has. I thinks it's only a 1Gb.
