    Samsung S22 Ultra

Interesting reviews on the Samsung S22 Ultra - looks like an NDA expired today
Still doesn't tempt me back, however. £1150 for a phone, not a chance!

    Re: Samsung S22 Ultra

Indeed I had the email a few days ago saying the NDA can be lifted from 1.30pm today. Looks good but like most flagship phones these days pricey. I am now just keeping my current phone and going sim only for a while.

    Re: Samsung S22 Ultra

If you want value in the Samsung range an S20FE for under £400 or normal S20 can be had for well under £500.

Amazon also are selling a lot of renewed S20 series phones for under £400 too:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=samsung...ref=nb_sb_noss

Then the A52S 5G is under £300 too.

How much profit do they make on phones? Just can't understand when you can get a powerful laptop for half the money.

Not to mention the bloatware that they receive money for. You would have hoped that could keep the price down for us

At the moment for my next phone I'm thinking Oppo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Red Magic...

    Re: Samsung S22 Ultra

Hmmm. This might surprise those that know me but I'm actually tempted. It also flies full in the face of comments I've made in the past about not spending more than about £200 on a phone .... only to spend a bit over £400 on the current one.

So tempted? Well, a bit, yeah. Why? In one word .... camera.

I want to see a lot more in the way of longer term and more detailed tests and, no way am I pre-ordering. Also, the more I think about Samsung shoving their damn 1st-party apps down my throat, the more annoyed I get. Just mention the word "Bixby" in my hearing and you'll also hear my snarl. And that was on an A-series phone not S-flagship, and it isn't even a top-of-line A-series. I'm seriously not happy with you, Samsung, over the drivel you foist on buyers.

So, will the temptation turn into an order? Depends on the conclusions on the camera. I'll put it as no more than maybe. I still neither use nor need an actual high-end phone. I still exist, and happily, on a PAYG SIM onto which I stick a whole £!5/year or so, and have some left over. What I'd be buying would be a highly portable computing device (for use mainly at homeon wifi), and a camera. Oh, and a phone for the tiny amount I actually use it as such.

So it very much depends on the camera. If it does what I want of it, maybe. If not, I'll probably just stick with the existing phone, and buy a camera as a camera .... and not have to grit or grind my teeth over bloat.

    Re: Samsung S22 Ultra

10% off @ Samsung if you have any of the work discount schemes such as perksatwork.

I was tempted to get the plain S22 as it's smaller than my P20 Pro and mine is dying, I just want a good camera with optical, performance wise I don't game or anything so I couldn't care less. But... it's Samsung, the bloat and nonsense really puts me off. Using something like Nova launcher does that hide a lot of this? I'd love the 10x optical on the ultra but no way am I paying that much or having a huge phone.

    Re: Samsung S22 Ultra

Three UK offering 'up to' £210 trade-in on my S20+ - which seems silly good? Are these trade in offers always this lucrative?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

They're usually pretty good for 'newer' phones

    I got the S21 Ultra.
They no longer do the lesser Galaxy S models and everything else was basically just a slight step up from my S5, so it made sense to leap several generations to the latest and greatest.

There is no dedicated Bixby button and I've utterly disabled Bixby anyway. There are a few Sammy apps on it, but again you can remove/disable them, and a few are actually OK this time around.
The camera is pretty damn good, and if you know what you're doing with the settings it can be outright fantastic.
The phone itself is big, but it does do a lot and performs brilliantly. There are minor niggles over some very subjective little details, but nothing that can't be gotten over.

If the S22 is anything like the 21, I'd certainly suggest looking into it.
