What is the best network to go for these days in Scotland or are they all much of a muchness now?
Depends on the area, Vodaphone has some areas entirely to itself (Isle of Lewis), Orange gives me a good balance of coverage, but o2 covers some areas it doesn't. The best thing is ask around and consider where you will be using it. Three is useless, last I heard t-mobile was a bit rubbish here (central-east coast).
I've just had a look at the coverage maps on the websites of vodafone/orange/o2, and got the results I pretty much expected. can;t link to them as they are pop-up windows, but basically
Vodafone had the best coverage in scotland, with pretty much all of scotland covered aside from the parts really high up.
Orange came in second, although pretty poor coverage in the east
o2 and T-mobile of course came in last with poor coverage (relative to Voda and Orange), but then that's what you would expect really
If you hunt around their websites you will be able to find the coverage maps for yourself, but Vodafone is definitely the best of the lot for coverage.
Don't forget that most operators offer a 14 day cooling off period (sometimes 7 if you buy from a shop). If the signal in your area isn't acceptable then you're well within your rights to return the phone and cancel the contract.
I find the maps to be a bit out actually, my area is shown by 02 and Orange as being absolutley fantastic hyper connection, yet theres only one place in my house where they'll actually get a signal.
Thank god for Bluetooth...
